ON TOP of the phone itself ? I don't think so.
What is it? Social status? My friend has one so I NEED one?
I'll take my dumb phone and laptop any day.

I think you're just so intent on going against the grain (even though it's illogical, cumbersome, less convenient, and provides no actual benefit to you) so you can delude yourself into feeling "unique" and "special."
In fact, you're so hellbent on going against anything with any sort of mass popularity so you can be "different" that you actually make yourself believe that the crap you have is somehow "better." And the funniest part about that is that it makes you so angry, you have to lash out at anyone that uses the devices that you hate so much. Which in turn makes you look like a complete idiot to everyone else because of your gigantic delusions, and then you become a social pariah. Well... bravo, buddy. You certainly set yourself apart from the crowd.

As far as the phone thing goes, one of the biggest reasons for me not getting one seems to have been eliminated. When I first moved to the area I now live there just wasn't any reasonable cell coverage available. I couldn't get a signal at all inside the house and if I went outside at the end of my driveway I could get just enough to get a connection but the odds of completing a call without getting disconnected were low.
Now, about 6 years later things have improved considerably and the coverage has improved quite a bit. I'm still not quite convinced that it is good enough to get rid of the land line and switch completely to a cell but it is at least moving in that direction.
One other thing that annoys me is that there always seems to be good deals for multiple phone plans but not for a single phone plan. I really haven't looked into it recently so maybe there are some better deals these days.
A pay about 50% more than that for 4 phone lines + 3 lines of data + 1 line of texting.

We did 6 years ago. So worth it! I don't even miss it.

Now for my wife, its 1200/ year to check facebook in the car and a few youtube videos here and there. Not worth it in my opinion, but she wont have that argument.
Does anybody else picture OP looks like this???

just kidding shes not like that, thankfully....yet
Yes, I know pretty much every phone can be bought factory unlocked. However, I'd say the vast, vast majority of smartphone buyers are not shelling out $500 or $600 for the phone. Rather, they sign the 2 year contact and get the phone for a pretty low or free price.
Since outright, non-contract sales are so low, there isn't much incentive for the companies to market unlocked phones.

Here, it is cheaper in the long run to buy the phone outright and use one of the small companies (like Boost) but you have to pay more upfront and don't get to have the coolest newest device subsidized for you.
You see a girl in this day and age without an iPhone 4? ...might as well have a cellulite butt!!!
