ON TOP of the phone itself ? I don't think so.

What is it? Social status? My friend has one so I NEED one?

I'll take my dumb phone and laptop any day.

A summary from last time:

Quote from Maleficent :
I think you're just so intent on going against the grain (even though it's illogical, cumbersome, less convenient, and provides no actual benefit to you) so you can delude yourself into feeling "unique" and "special."

In fact, you're so hellbent on going against anything with any sort of mass popularity so you can be "different" that you actually make yourself believe that the crap you have is somehow "better."

And the funniest part about that is that it makes you so angry, you have to lash out at anyone that uses the devices that you hate so much. Which in turn makes you look like a complete idiot to everyone else because of your gigantic delusions, and then you become a social pariah.

Well... bravo, buddy. You certainly set yourself apart from the crowd. Thumbup

if it's anything like your spelling, I wouldn't want it - you still have to manually perform the update by going to garmin's website, installing their little program, saying no you don't want the crapware toolbar, uninstalling their program, and then repeating the process every 3 months
Big whoop things don't change that fast and Garmins maps and POI's and accuracy are far superior to any cell phone GPS

You're right. New houses, businesses, and streets aren't built all the time. Everything changes on the same day once per business quarter. Until that date there are no new streets, businesses/POI's, and homes.

You're farking retarded a farking troll.

And Google Maps has always been pretty frigan accurate for me. Accurate enough, at least, that I'm comfortable using it all the time as my regular GPS.

Because you pay for it monthly.

I pay nothing for Google Maps. I pay for the access to it and I can easily afford to do so. Just because you can't or won't has no effect on what I'm willing to spend money on.

and google earth is superior to any map garmin may or may not have - POI? can you see the statue of liberty on your garmin? what about a street view that shows you that the restaurant you were looking for is on the 2nd floor, instead of just a vague address? and can you send an address from your computer to your garmin, like say from an e-mail? or do you bring the laptop into the car, look up the e-mail, and then proceed to type it into the garmin? does your garmin even have multi-touch capabilities for zooming/rotating the map?(since who uses paper to transfer data)

That's because OP is delusional and no one actually pays that much, and he intentionally words his rhetorical questions in a stupid manner. He can't understand why anyone would pay for a smartphone and/or data usage, despite being given dozens and dozens of reasons both in this thread and in the last one.
I would pay well over $1200 just for my wife and I, but my circumstances are somewhat unique. My company pays for both lines w/ basic service. If I want anything different, I have to foot the entire bill myself.

The 1400 minute family plan is $90/mth ($90 x 12 = $1080). If we just get the 3GB plan, that's $60/yr for 2 people ($60 x 12 = $720). That's $1800/yr without tacking on all the stupid fees that carriers charge every month.

Note from my previous post that although $1800 isn't worth it for me, I could care less how other people spend their money. We all have our own wants/needs.

find me a GPS that has live traffic updates
Live traffic updates are a waste of money, regardless of whether you have them on your phone or GPS. Granted that TomTom's are better than Garmin's, but both are still largely useless. Not only are they highly inaccurate, but they primarily only major metro areas.

Google maps vs. Garmin my .02
Today I used google maps from my incredible to go to a store that i've been to before . Google had me get off at exit 9 as opposed to exit 10, exit 9 brought me through the center of town, approx 6 mins from the store. Garmin tells me to use exit 10 which is alot closer, store is less than 1 min from exit. Google seems to be more update on searches and locations because Garmin tells me that store in on left side of street but really is on right. The other day Google sent me down a dirt road, around a pond and through a cranberry bog even though a paved road was nearby, dirt road was more direct, definatly not easier. I guess Google from phone is good in a pinch but if I'm going away on a trip i'll definatly be bringing my trusty Garmin.

No.

Google Maps:
- Constantly being updated with no need to download new updates
- Street View
- Power of Google that can search for whatever business you're looking for in your area or where you will be that doesn't need to be in the default POIs of your little garmin.
- A small purchase can give you voice turn by turn directions
- Built into a device you already own, no need to have a second device just for directions.
- Offers traffic at no add'l cost
- Can be used whether in a car, on a bike, walking around the city
- Offers directions via Public Transportation

Garmin:
- Needs to be manually updated
- Limited POIs
- Traffic service costs extra
- No Google Street View
- Additional Device to purchase and mount in your car
- Can't be used while walking around a city, only real use is in a car
- Doesn't give information on public transportation

Yeah, you're right. Your garmin is so much better than google maps.

He's talking about just for data portion, not what you pay for the entire phone service. So talk, text, etc. aren't included.

If you pay $1200 a year in addition to your regular phone service, JUST for the data portion, I'm gonna quote frogstar and say you're a schmuck. laugh out loud

Fine, if you want walking directions, really you're going to carry your farking GPS around with you? Seriously? Jesus christ. Might as well carry a roadmap in your back pocket too. Good lord. It's about convenience. Either you're a complete farking moron who can't grasp this concept or you're a troll. My money is on the latter. I'm done.

Right? LMAO

He complains about the weight/size of a smartphone, but apparently carrying a regular phone AND a GPS unit, well that's not cumbersome at all! Crazylaugh
