RETIRED Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

228 92 October 16, 2010 at 01:35 PM
Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Said not to water it after. Today I water the lawn first like it said and came in and watched the news and found out its going to rain tonight so I couldnt do the side yard. Should have looked before i watered the lawn!!! Got lots of prickly thistle on one side and on the other is what we called winter creeper but I just saw it today referred to as Charlies creeper!!!! Lots of clover dandelion and other little stuff mixed in that I dont care about but I want to walk barefoot in my own grass!!!!
If that does not work in a while I will look at my bottle and then you can try this - think it is Ortho weed and feed, not certain. kills all that stuff. I am worried. This never happened to me before. My oak tree (i guess the pollynoses) germinated way over 100 little oak sprouts. I will have a forest in 2 years if they do not die. And they are not weeds so no weed killer will work on them.

Mine does that about every 7 years!! I hate it! While they are little they are easy to pluck! Just dont let them get established! Found some that were a foot tall so I went around the other day with round up and today I saw that they are turning brown. Just dont get weed killer on anything else or it will kill that too

Funny, the gorillas and your son. Does he laugh? Sam has to wear socks as his feet get wet on the barge and he has to wear sneakers so he does not slip. So he looks funny. EEK!

Good Evening/Morning All You Wonderful People!! Trying to have a good time with Sis but all it keeps doing is raining. Hasn't stopped yet. Thought it was done today partly cloudy a liitle warm and no wind off the lake and then here comes the rain again. Suppose to stop now but be only in the 60's for next few days. Hard to even entertain her with the beauty here she missed when it keeps raining and cold. Been reading everyone needs rain and to hot well I'm sending the rain your way I hope, and please send some sun and warm this way in exchange. LOL

Every so often i get what I call "the year of the acorns". That is when hundreds fall and I have to hand pick them out of the stones and they grow in the grass too. soo many,. the roots will be 4 inches with hardly anything on the top. Bags full of acorns and they are heavy and I ruin my nails for about a month. all night long I hear ping, ping as they hit the gutters and the stones and roof. Hope it is not this year.

I still stand by the pouring hot hot water on them and then salt and they dry up and die. The weeds I am talking about. LOL but I wonder if it would work the same on the tree seedlings?

If they are small just pull them up. You can use round up on the taller ones if you take something flat and put it behind the leaves and then spray it. Last time mine seeded I wanted to use the old vacuum on the lawn!! Sister thought I was crazy but I didnt want to miss any!! I just hate it when the squirrels eat their nuts and dont clean up the hulls!!!! Also hate those little helicopter things the other oak tree does!

Yep thats what we called them as kids helicopters. Grab a handful and throw them in the air and watch them fall.

Id be worried about it killing the grass too. If its in dirt or rocks it might work on smaller ones. Have a beautiful Sugar maple in the back thats trouble free. Wish my grandma had planted them in the front too!!!

My grandma used to spend ours on keeping the lawn beautiful and weed free. Every time we would come over she would be on her knees digging up dandelions and we would be in the back blowing the tops off the ones we just picked from the neighbors yard!!! I told her years later and we laughed about it. We just wanted to add some color to her yard!!! laugh out loud

Really that is what I used it on in the rocks and sidewalk. Not sure what it would do in the grass. Probably not a good idea there. I used to just go out with the little garden shovle on those big weeds and dig right down and pull them up and grab the roots..
