RETIRED Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

228 92 October 16, 2010 at 01:35 PM
Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

I think it's a glitch, Surely the first two words are Barbecue Smoker, I've tried numerous words for the last one from that crosswords site you posted.

For something easier -- enter for a banana pen on Dole's Trivia Tuesday

Which of these is NOT a cruciferous vegetable?
Bok Choy Turnip Celery

Has to be Celery because: Bok choy has a crisp texture and a mild flavor. It is in the same family as broccoli, Chinese cabbage, turnips and cauliflower

I started here during OWTW, I happened to goegle the first question and ended up here and have been here every since. I don't know who started the contest sweeps thing but we got bored after OWTW and we started doing that. I don't even remember who came up with the term Funny Farm.
I think it might have been me! People started commenting about how we couldn't give reps to each other anymore. So I went & posted in a Guacamole contest & said "thanks" and told everyone else to. It worked - reps were passed around. Turns out I won a $100 grocery store gift card by getting 1st prize in that exact same guac contest!

We got to Bear Creek Lake Park Campground and the temperature was over 100 degrees at 10 AM. This is truly a desert environment and our campsite had one little, tiny tree, which was immediately deemed mine, as Queen Coleman. I could hardly function, and my folks were all somewhat worried about me passing out, as I slathered on sunscreen in the shade of my tree. My court set up camp with all the gear I won except for the grill and the canopy, which at that point we wanted badly. There were trees and lakes all around us, just not at the camp site.

We had demonstrations for lunch and dinner by a local celebrity chef who showed us how to prepare a healthy, easy meal using Coleman gear. Then families split into groups to cook and eat together, in the shade of canopies, and we all enjoyed that. The kids were hilarious and had so much fun!

Various activities were planned for the afternoon. Goat and the Crazy Celt went horseback riding, and Louie and I headed for the lake on Pelican Point to go kayaking. We got the wimp kayak, as my sister was somewhat nervous. We had fun paddling around, looking at the swans and ducks and continued getting sunburned, despite multiple layers of sunscreen. Being on the water cooled us off somewhat, which was a relief. As we stood by the shore after our float, a big, white bird landed right in front of us that was so majestic as it dominated the lake scene before us. No one was quite sure what it was...maybe a heron? It was a stunning white pelican. I've never seen one before. It flew away before we could get our cameras, which were up on the bank with the rest of our stuff.

Dinnertime rolled around before we had time to go fishing, and Coleman had paid for a license for those of us that didn't have one. During our meal we were serenaded by a couple guys who played guitars and sang familiar songs. Goat had printed up the words of some campfire songs, including songs from our Girl Scout days, songs from our family. Although we sang some of them throughout the day, the only sing along was by our campfire. I was surprised that they allowed campfires in designated rings, because it is so dry and the fire danger is so high.

We never did go fishing that day, and by dark everyone went to sleep, except us. We sat up and talked and sang by our campfire, as the amber moon went down behind the foothills.

The next day as we broke down our camp, I went to talk with the Coleman reps about what to do with the gear we had just used, as all my gear would be shipped home to me in Washington. They told me to keep it. I had to ask several times if was OK to do that, in addition to my prize. They assured me it was fine, and my sister's will split up all that great Coleman camping gear! Yep...it sure is fun to share!
We left our campsite with a hoot and a holler to go fishing. Crazy Celt caught a trout, but we were all so sunburned and sweaty and tired, we headed back to the mile high city...happy siblings, happy campers.

Thanks so much to those of you who congratulated me on my two huge wins, and gave me a bon voyage to Colorado! I'm heading home to Clearwater tomorrow and getting somewhat melancholy as I pack my bags. I am so fortunate, because my wish came true. Smilie
I'm so sorry our weather didn't cooperate for your trip. We are breaking all kinds of records with this heat wave! With the heat & the smoke in the air, I've been taking it easy.

The show Dirty Jobs on the Discovery channel is going to have a segment on cleaning a BBQ smoker......it is at a place in Georgia...I didnt catch the name of the place but it looks like it will be a pretty dirty one.
Here is the particulars of the show

Mike Rowe gets dirty at a famous barbeque joint, joins forces with a big animal veterinarian and finds himself deep in a New Jersey sludge

As I was lying in bed pondering the problems of the world, I rapidly realized that I don't really give a rat's hiney. It's the tortoise life for me!

1. If walking is good for your health, the postman would be immortal.
2. A whale swims all day, only eats fish, drinks water, and is fat.
3. A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 8 months.
4. A tortoise doesn't run and does nothing, yet it lives for 450 years.

And you tell me to exercise?? I don't think so. I'm retired. Go around me.
