How do I get pale again?

10,633 2,427 June 9, 2012 at 01:07 PM in Sad
Ok, so summer has started and I have been playing lots more tennis, I mean lots, avg. 10+ hours a week, and even using sunblock I have went up a good 5 shades, I am Chinese suppose to be lighter/light skin, yellow if you wanna say, now I look dark as some of the Hispanic people out there. Anything I can do? My parents get md at me for this b/c they say girls won't like me as I am so dark and stuff, and they always tell me to not play tennis although I do anyway. Anyway, any advice how to reverse this?

Yea, that is some people I guess, I don't burn, I can say that for sure. I only get darker. IDK why, like why can't I be like some of the Caucasian people, where their skin peels off and you can actually see it. With mine, idk if I even generate new skin as I never see the shedding.
Gross! You want your skin to peel like a lizard shedding its skin? LMAO

It's a good thing to check because skin cancer can be really sneaky. Using a higher SPF and applying frequently may help your cause of not tanning, though.

OMG I agree! Peeling is the worst. I'm extremely susceptible to it, too.

My proudest accomplishment while in Florida is that I never got sunburned because I was so diligent about sunblock. Beat that, sun! Flex

I'm Scandinavian and the only time my skin peels off is on those rare occasions when I'm leaving it behind on the roadway. I don't enjoy it.. Skin shedding is for ecdysozoans--I'd rather keep mine on.

I stayed out in the sun too long one day last summer and got a mild burn on my chest in the shape of the neckline on my shirt. That stupid farking tan line is still there this year - it's faded, but it's there. My skin sucks. laugh out loud
When I burn (which is hardly ever) it normally just turns into a tan, but one time I decided to even out my farmer tan by wearing a narrow-backed tank top on an all-day bike ride. I tend to ride in the aero position, so my back is getting lots of direct sunlight and I did put on a thorough coat of sunblock before heading out--or so I thought.

Turns out the sunblock covered the areas left uncovered by my tank top when I was standing around, but not the edges of my shoulderblades when I bent forward into the riding position. Ooops. That got me the best sunburn ever--two thoroughly suncharred crescents on my back that looked like I'd had a pair of wings cut off right there. Those lasted more than a year, and I was pretty happy with them.

(Still trying to grow the wings back, though. I definitely need to work on my regenerative powers a bit more.)

I burn very easily, almost always the first time I really hit the sun for the year but it eventually fades into a tan (sometimes after peeling, blistering, or both Annoyed).

Your story about the back reminds me of when I went to the fair last year. I put sunblock on my arms because they had almost finished transitioning from burned to tan. I didn't account for the sleeves on my shirt moving up when I sat on the grassy hill leaning forward for a few hours and I ended up with these two thick strips of really dark tan on my upper arms. Fortunately those tan marks disappeared sometime over the winter but I was stuck with them all summer. laugh out loud

I know, right?! I've had it happen a couple times. Not for like 10 years or so. I'm much more careful about sunscreen now. But yeah, who would WISH for that? laugh out loud

I think that your color looks fine. If you weren't wearing the sunblock you would have been much darker.

Just don't end up looking like this!

The thread title is rather interesting. Most people would say, 'How do I get pale again?' Sounds like you're not quite comfortable with your race, which is understandable given your parents take on skin color. I have a friend from India who lives in the states and when her parents came over to visit her they fussed about her tan and told her to stay out of the sun because she was getting dark and Indian guys wouldn't like that. Just be you, do what you're comfortable with. The right girl will like you for who you are inside, not what shade you are. Smilie

Be careful with that, I'm pale skinned too and got burned a few times on my neckline. Once I got up into my late forties, I started noticing that the neckline area has some red blotches and uneven skin tone. I'm sure it's skin damage from those two or three burns back in my 20's. The back of my hands have a lot of damage too, I wish I'd used sunblock all the time and not just at the beach.

Yeah, I'm usually good about sunscreen and I limit my time in the sun but on that particular day being outside that long was unplanned and I didn't have any and wasn't in a place where I could pick some up. I try to take good care of my skin, a few in my family have had skin cancer.

Why would you assume that he is not comfortable with his race because he said white instead of pale? Maybe English is his second language and he didn't think about saying 'pale'. Dontknow

My daughter's going to the beach; she almost forgot her shovel and white.
