black is pretty casual to me. i don't think i'd wear the raspberry tho - it's not a color i normally choose to wear (tho i'd wear it in a top or sweater, with jeans or slacks).
i love the longer sides of the skirt! (makes it more decent on me Coverlaugh) i'm still undecided on the dress and hoping it gets cheaper. i'm excited for express' 90 day return policy - anything i order now can be returned after wedding/etc! laugh out loud

there are a bunch out there on the web, but here [weddingchannel.com] is a simple timeline/checklist. most of them start at least 12 months out. tbh they freaked me out kuz i felt like i was soooo behind, so i can say from personal experience that you don't need to follow those timelines sometimes. but it's a great guideline to let you know what needs to be done, and in what order. (tho, in our area, makeup artist should probably be the first thing to be booked.)

according to the list, trying on dresses is 6-9 months out. if she wants it to happen in april (assuming late april) she's only 8 months out now. she'd better get a move on~!
Oh thank you! This will definitely help her! I shall forward this along! And yeah about the makeup artist. laugh out loud I think she wasn't even considering one Faint until I showed Kelly Zhang's work. Faint I really think she thought her BMs can do own makeup. All the rest of the girls are super duper duper plain. I've seen one with eyeliner, ever. And bride doesn't wear makeup ever. Faint

I'm honestly surprised this is moving so fast because from last I heard, they weren't going to get married until she got into grad school, completes it, get a job, and then buy a house. I know they looked at houses, but couldn't put $$ down for what they wanted so they postponed that. She's just prepping to take the test for grad school and she said she wasn't even going to think about a wedding until after the test! But she's designing invitations already!!! And almost bought a dress! And told me her desired month! Faint

Got the BM dress back today. All ready to go, now just packing- we leave early afternoon later today. Turned out, seamstress' sister passed away Monday... 1 month almost to the day she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Insisted on doing the work anyway. : ( So sad.
I totally agree with you on this stuff- she's gotta at least narrow down shape/style!
Glad you got your dress back in time! What a nice thing for the seamstress to be able to do and pull through.

Good luck at the wedding!!

I think it would be funny if it turned out that I was helping and/or turning out to be a coordinator-like person for my friend for her wedding so she can be more realistic about timeline! EEK!

hahah i've seen people do their own makeup (honestly i think i could do my own - i'm just not sure i want to bc it's stressful). it's just nice to get pampered. but i've found that with those who don't use makeup normally - they can probably use any makeup artist and they will look beautiful. she probably doesn't need to pay the $$$$ it costs for one of the top ones. (a cheaper one that i think is just as good is joy luck - based in walnut, tho she is booked very far in advance as well - there is another one i LOVE and i wish she were available for my day - cheaper than kelly too! her work on hair is AHHHMAZING while i don't think kelly or her team does great hair.) i have some other recs for cheaper ones that in retrospect i probably would have tried out. oh vell! lmk if you'd like my short list (or long list Teehee).

weddings have a way of moving fast i think. but you should really get her to look through some of those timelines, in the least, to think through her desired time frame. a wedding is not only about the dress, bridesmaids, and invitations. there is so much more to it.

Do you have an Express pea coat? I'm wondering if those of us who are vertically challenged can wear them. I usually only purchase petite coats, due to sleeve length. Also, how are the sleeves on the clay coat? Are they long? I'm thinking about ordering that one too.

Gosh, I hope I can convince her to try them on before her sister is back! But she seemed to have made it clear she wanted all the bridesmaids with her for the dress try-ons. She has a twin sister, so I guess there's something about that wanting to do almost everything with a twin or something first.

I guess I figured most engagements last at least 1 year to prep for the wedding?

I just think that she doesn't really know what's all required and needs to be done for a wedding and probably won't hire a coordinator to help her through (wanting to be frugal). So I'm trying my best, even though I don't know what all needs to be done and I just have my little spreadsheet/checklist from my research that I've sent her to help her get started. So I definitely appreciate all the insight you're giving and what else I can pick up here and there from the thread : ) : nod:

Good call. I didn't notice that either! Don't really like the smaller avatar : (
If she wants a simple wedding, is willing to purchase dresses off the rack, & do her own makeup, she has plenty of time. If she wants to have everything special order, book a nice venue & arrange for a makeup artist, she needs to get with it. It's possible to pull off a wedding with a couple months notice. You just have to accept that you will have limitations on what can be accomplished. Since she's trying to plan a super low budget wedding, she may not need the extra time. She probably already realizes she'll be limited. A lot depends on what venue she'll use. If it's a family church or backyard, she'll probably be fine. Obviously, I've never planned a Cali wedding. Nerdi would know much more about what can be accomplished on short notice there.

I don't think I have one of their pea coats. My closet looks like a bomb went off in it right now laugh out loud. The sleeves on the clay coat are a little long. Not that bad though.

that is true - Iagree with what you've said here. she really does not need to have a MUA come to her. there are so many options - you could go to the a counter like the LM counter or even sephora and get your makeup done there. dresses can be had for much cheaper and don't NEED to be special ordered. venues will be a bit more available in april (and even easier to book if she wants it in january - march!) and BM dresses are easy if she buys off the rack (which i would totally do in retrospect). and if she's making stuff herself - flowers, etc - then i suppose you could pull one out in a short time. assuming she has time to make everything that is! (i'm ALMOST done with my programs... laugh out loud only 10 more to go!)
