Nope, I don't think asking is necessarily cultural. I've read in magazines and online before that the bride will ask formally and give you a small gift as a favor to be her bridesmaid. I think it's Western tradition? It seems like she's having a very Western wedding. At least that's what it seems with BMs paying for everything.

I believe the BMs will be throwing the Bridal Shower and paying for the Bachelorette party. Definitely no strippers for this gal, so I'm thinking it will be more chill. I don't see her as going to the Vegas type either...? I'm not sure about this though. I remember your strippers story shake head

So far, none of the girls have responded to my email about when we should probably start thinking about these things since April is right around the corner, so I'm thinking that they are kind of gonna be lackluster. Ehh.. I hope that's not the case though.
Ah, I see. The bride & groom gives gifts to the BMs and GMs, but not when they are selected. It usually has something to do with the wedding. My friend gave us the necklaces to wear to the wedding. Her groom gave something regarding the tuxedo, I believe. She gave them to us during the rehearsal dinner.

Hopefully, the bride will have a BM meeting after she selects the date and location. I guess brides find it easy to inform the BMs of the game plan. Afterwards, the BMs can pow-wow about the shower & party. I still think your bride will be easy, so I think it will be smooth sailing. Hopefully, the BMs are easy too!

Since we are on the topic of weddings, may I ask for some suggestions about gifts for the bride at the bridal shower? I'm thinking of getting the bride some gift certificates for SpaFinder so she can pamper herself. Does that sound like an appropriate gift? It's confusing to me to have to separate wedding gifts vs. bridal gifts, and the gift certificates is the best thing I could think of. The shower is next weekend, and I just received the invite. So it'll have to be something quick and easy that I could get since I can't really shop in-stores right now. Thanks in advance for any feedback and suggestions!
I like Red's suggestion. I was going to ask how well you know the bride. If not well, I would not suggest lingerie. So if not Red's suggestion or the Spa GC (ensuring that there are spas accessible to the bride's area), a bath/beauty gift set (pre-made or made by you).

She'll end up with a lot of gifts she didn't want. Some people refuse to give cash & will just buy what they think she needs. If she specifically asked for cash, some people will be offended, & won't give anything. Staying out of it is probably your best bet though. Wink
Hahaha...so true. People are truly offended when people ask for cash on the invitation. What about if they do not ask for cash, but do not register? Hahaha...people I know are usually offended by that too. My cousin did that...just did not register. I understand it, but I do not like it. I usually low-ball people who ask for cash. How dare you! Hahaha

You have to have the cc and be on the a list level. It may be called premier now. That gets you the $40 gift. I think regular cc customers get a lower bday reward. Not sure about just the next members without the cc.
Yowza. Definitely sounds like Express CC has way more perks than VS Angel CC.
Quote from GoHeels :
Warning, you will become addicted. shake head When you make A-list for FS with the CC, it's too easy to shop. I buy way more than I ever would have w/o the CC & FS. It's the FS that did me in. Facepalm I'm kind of glad I can't get FS on any purchase at VS. I'd probably spend too much there too. Embarrassment
laugh out loud Thanks for the warning. The FS is definitely a great perk along with the bday gift. But I've been trying so hard to avoid the Express bandwagon that I feel bad about giving in now. Ahhh...you girls are bad for my wallet! >_<

And don't feel bad about shopping too much. You needed a new wardrobe after losing weight and you definitely deserved the treat. And I'm sure your sweet DH didn't mind you modeling all those pretty new clothes for him. Wink
Quote from IceyNiki :
I do not know how you remained cool. I would have at least said, "Did you just knock me down looking as good as I do? You need to settle down, bi**h! No one even knows you." I would have at least said that!
LMAO Note to self: don't get on Icey's bad side!

I'm a sucker for planning and wanting to make things perfect because I'm a perfectionist. But I understand I'm working with 3 other girls...so I can't pull the boat. I can be the one that's the most "there" for the bride as much as possible.
Can't contribute much to the wedding talk but I want to wish you good luck on the BM duty! bounce

Is she registered anywhere? Just a tip. If she's registered at Macy's and you buy something off the registry, a $20/$50 coupon prints with it for use on a future purchase, even if it's something small. That may help with the wedding or shower gift. I bought her $5 hangers from the registry and then purchased something bigger with the 20/50 coupon.

Do spafinder gift cards expire? I'd be worried about getting her something that expires with the wedding coming up. This may be a busy year for her.
Quote from nerdgirl :
that sounds like a great gift! it's a stressful time so i think some relax/pampering will definitely be welcomed. of course, some like spas more than others so it's hard to say for sure, but i'm not huge on massages/spas and i would have loved a spafinder gc at my shower since i've been so stressed.

red makes a good point about expiration date, but as long as it has 6 months on it it should be ok. i would hope it'd be valid till after the wedding/honeymoon, but depending on how far away her wedding is, she may even find use for it beforehand (to destress).

Thank you for all your great ideas! The couple does not have a registry. I think they're having a Chinese-style wedding so I may give them gift cards/cash for their wedding. I'm good friends with the bride and groom. But, unfortunately, due to a recent injury, I cannot do any in-store shopping. (I'm lucky if I can walk for a minute without pain) :/ For the bridal shower, I will probably opt for spafinder certs since they do not expire, and I think the bride will enjoy them; she's very girly. Not even if I steal your wedding bouquet? Evillaugh Haha...j/k, I'm not quite ready for marriage yet.

Thanks for the welcome back. Smilie Although I feel like I'm on here more often than not; it's just that between the Express and wedding talk recently, I don't have much to contribute to the conversation.

Love how you personalize nicknames by the way! Make everyone feel special. heart

Hahaha...I do not usually participate in the bouquet toss. So you are safe. Hahaha

I understand. Sometimes I am in the thread lost in the sauce. The tides always turn to something else though. (I cannot get into Express either. When I get on the computer, I will add Express to the thread name if the ladies like.)

Oh, good! I hope no one takes offense to their alt name I give. If so, just let me know.

Job search is going. I am obsessing over cover letter and resume still. I am going to settle on a base this weekend. I am a perfectionist with some things.

My back is much better. I am back at work, but I still have to "ice" it with cooling gel sometimes. (Last night, actually.) Thanks for asking.

What is going on with you???

Working on it, in the meantime, wore the ruched tube in print from Express. Will work on a snapshot upload tomorrow while we sit in Labor Day traffic Coverlaugh
I saw these earrings [mjrsales.com]- look like they might be a good match for that blue floral strapless dress you bought the bangles for.

After Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Coverlaugh When the responsibility's yours, it probably feels a lot closer than it does to the rest of the girls. It will be alright - their juices will get flowing for the occasion when the bride starts getting serious about attire and whatnot.

On formal Bridal Party invites, I received one- she sent me a card and a book, Bad Bridesmaid laugh out loud

My sister is having a bridal shower/bachelorette/bachelor party all at the same time. We are inviting 160 people Faint That is a lot of people to be at her house in the end of October. I think she practically invited everyone who is going to the wedding to the party at her house. Then she didn't even want to register for gifts. She just wants cash. She is Crazy But everytime I say anything she gets mad at me. So I'm just keeping my mouth shut. I can't wait for it to be over.

Holy crap, I forgot about all those major holidays Faint Guess that means she won't get serious til December! Late December I might add!

Terrible! Hope it was a funny book though...You should've gifted her something about being Bridezilla and left that at her seat during the reception while she was talking to her ex-DBF laugh out loud Terrible

Hm...my VS order from last night was cancelled for some reason. They send me this message: "Dear xxx, Due to questions pertaining to your account, we were unable to complete the processing of your order. Therefore, your order has been cancelled." Anyone had similar experience? Wonder what questions they've pertaining to my account. Scratchhead

I think the Express ladies would welcome the addition to thread name. Teehee In fact, I remember some of them mentioned it a few times in the past.

Nothing wrong with wanting your resume and cover letter to be perfect. Smilie Since you already have a job now, maybe you don't need to hurry along to find a new one? Stress is not conducive to healing, so go at a pace you're most comfortable with. And sorry to hear that your back is still bothering you. As for me, nothing much is going on. I'm possibly the most boring person on this planet! My life right now basically consist of work, walking the dog, shopping, and stalking this thread. laugh out loud Someone needs to get a life. Stick Out Tongue

Seems like it's going to be a quiet weekend on here. Hope everyone's having a great Labor Day weekend! Wave

You're totally off the hook until the date is set and venue booked Wink Ooh no, this was from a different bride, it was all in good fun. That one was easy and enjoyable. Bridal party was me and 3 sisters. They bought me the dress and worked around a job interview I had. Could not have asked for more, it was all about the union, no other drama or fuss. Big Grin
