My kiddo is quite the chatty cathy in school. She's a social butterfly. Which I'm glad about but my SIL who works there and is in the next classroom says she constantly hears the teacher say, "sit down B" "be quiet, B". Oh and the other day, she did not take a nap because she was too busy playing and talking to a little boy.

Flash cards are fun too, but I think reading to them all different kinds of books is really helpful. Once they start being able to read some words though, I like to play a game where I read one page and the kid reads one page (where I help).

I just remember that it was wonderful when my dad and I read Huck Finn together, alternating chapters when I was in 4th grade...so I apply that now just earlier.

Didn't I tell u my sister was just like that!!!

Her teachers said she was always staring at and talking to the little boys laugh out loud

You still do most of the reading though right? There's been lots of studies that say that having a parent or teacher actually reading to them helps them learn how to speak better as well as read. Part of it is the interaction the other part is that the kid also watches your facial expressions as well as mouth movements and positions and they pick it up better IRL than from TV because of the 3D vs. 2D renderings.

Oh and I read a study somewhere about how kids age 2 and under shouldn't watch TV because it doesn't help develope their brains. TV just isn't the same as real life...
