I think you're an open minded person who's willing to look at both sides. I don't think you're the kind of person Nye was talking. I think he's fed up with people who simply don't want to try to understand the world in any other light or from any other POV. I don't think his speech was very eloquint...he's spoken much better at other times.

I think he just wants people to make sure their kids are thinking and not just blindly accepting a simple explanation for what happens. There's been a big movement toward blind following and believing in religions recently and thinking's kinda been put on a back burner. It's a common cycle...

But I'm pretty sure you encourage your children to look at things from as many POVs as possible and to think and question things. If when they got older and decided to figure something out on their own I'm sure you would support them even if it wasn't the way you saw things, because you want them to learn for themselves...

I think that was the message he was trying to get across...he just didn't do it well...

I just remember watch the video Nye put out and thinking..."I get what you're saying and I want to agree with you, but you're saying it very badly and will probably do more harm than good."

He's one of my heros and it's hard to disagree with the way he does things, but I really feel he didn't do this one well. But the underlying point makes complete sense to me.

It makes me feel that you don't begrudge people for being human. My biggest problem with religeon is the judgement and the punishments involved. No one does everything perfectly and people hating others just because they have different lifestyles and choices just causes more conflict. It sucks when someone tries to force who they are and what they believe on you. But you've accepted you're not perfect and only focus on making yourself and your family better instead of trying to make everyone out to what you think is better.

I wish people tried to understand each other better instead of always saying I'm right, you're wrong.

It's not a religeon, but I've always lived by the golden rule, to treat others as I would want to be treated (no matter how they treat me). I try to think how I would feel in their situation and try to be accepting and understanding and helpful and I hope by doing my part others will try to follow that. You don't have to change your soul beliefs, you just have to try to accept that others feel differently.

So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them. Matthew 7:12

I think it's also a disservice to teach children that they're automatically guilty of something that their ancestors did thousands and thousands of years ago.

Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love God with all your heart soul and mind. I can't do that if I'm hating someone else; that's what makes election season so difficult for me. The second commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. Nowhere does it say it's my responsibility to judge others. I can debate opinions and facts and whatever else, but nowhere am I to admonish someone.

But yeah.....the golden rule came from the bible.
