Oh....sorry. I let one of those pesky indoctrinations slip out again.
I wasn't supposed to buy DD anymore clothes since I've spend almost $150 in the last 2 weeks but it was 90% off!
So it's more like, "Hey, Mary. Will ask your son to do this or that or look after this or that for me since you're in all good with him being his mother and all? wink wink nudge nudge." So then it all made sense to me since all of those are biblical principles. Honor your mother and father. We are all brothers and sister through our souls which means Mary is the mother of our brother Jesus. She certainly has his ear as is evidenced by her request to get more wine for the wedding. And Paul and Peter both addressed praying to the souls already in heaven and asking them to intercede on our behalf.
The catholics I know aren't like that, but they do hold Mary very high. It was just recently that I learned why. One reason is, we are told to honor our mother and our father. Well if Christ is at the pinnacle of christianity, shouldn't we also honor his mother. I mean really....she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. And when I asked the priest why catholics pray to Mary, he asked me if I had ever asked someone to pray for me about something going on in my life. Then he asked me if I ever thought I would be praying when I get to heaven. I said I'd probably be doing more praying there than here. Then he explained that catholics don't pray to Mary; they ask Mary to pray to her son for them.

Jesus doesn't count, and those other two are old testament, which means that the Jews believed that, but it's not taught as canonical in the catholic religion. Don't forget, the old testament is seen as nice history, not law. If it was, then you wouldn't be mixing fabrtics in your clothes, touching women on their period, etc. As a catholic, you absolutely believe that Mary ascended into heaven.
