What's up with the N word? Keep it out of the Podium please.

12,738 11,124 July 20, 2012 at 06:48 PM in Question
It really bothers me when black people or for that matter anyone uses the N word.

I was walking into Wal-Mart today, when I passed a group of five young black kids. All I heard was N this and you F-ing N. More then once in the short time it took me to get out of ear shot of them.

My question is if it is an offensive word for a white person to say it, what makes it less offensive for a black person to use it?

If I would have been walking past them with some of my white friends and called one of them a N In front of them, I would more then likely would have had to defend myself.

People that use that word speaks volumes about themselves and their prospects as contributing members of society - regardless of race or beliefs, IMO.

Funny how morality works isn't it? We all have a very knowledgeable sense of what it is, but then when we want to break it we personalize by situation, stereotype, skin color, etc.. We know it's wrong, but we justify it. It's really kind of sad how we say something is okay for this person or group of people but not that person or group of people, and our justification is that our circumstances are out of our control. The whole point of morality is to use it as a compass for right and wrong....not to deny it on baseless and trivial things such as skin color or financial situation or whatever just so that we can say we are right.

Dead on cracker boy.

I honestly feel as someone else said, that it's an entitlement thing, but not just on the side of those saying it. I feel it's also on those that are justifying their speech. It's like we are so afraid of offending someone, or 'disrespecting' someone.

I'm white. If I say it's my 'culture' to call women cats, does that make it okay?

I didn't post the cat word, I used the c.u. word.

If in your actual real culture it was acceptable, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I would expect that you would know how to be respectful to other cultures as well and not use the word in mixed company.

I think the point in this case is that the "N" word seems to be okay if a person from one culture uses it but is not okay to that same person if someone from outside of their culture uses it.

It should either be okay within a certain culture or not okay within that same culture. The hypocrisy is what is the problem.

I see. Well, I don't see a problem with that rule. I know it isn't a favorite opinion, but I'm okay with that.
