Samsung got wrecked:

* Jury finds Samsung infringement of Apple utility, design patents for some (though not all) products
* Jury upholds Apple utility, design patents
* Jury upholds Apple trade dress '983
* Jury finds Samsung "diluted" Apple's registered iPhone, iPhone 3 and "Combination iPhone" trade dress on some products, not on others
* No Apple infringement of Samsung utility patents
* Jury found Samsung violated antitrust law by monopolizing markets related to the UMTS standard

Damages owed by Samsung:
* $2.3 billion and counting

Agreed. I always think it's comical when people comment that individuals ought to lead a highly moral life, unless it's business, in which case you're free to rape, pillage, and terrorize in pursuit of a fast buck.
That is how it appears to me, you must be highly morel in everywhere unless its business. I really hate statements like, its just business. Which really means, go back stab a few people and it is perfectly okay and somehow morel because you can get away with it? No thanks.

No. I'm mad at both. I'm mad at the US for granting such ridiculously wide patents, and I'm mad at the person at Apple who made the decision to abuse those inappropriately wide patents to grab for even more money than they already possess. Apple deserves just as much blame as the US Patent office.
If apple doesn't abuse them, then someone else would... But that being said, I can't believe apple has a patent on the iPhone's shape... Like having a patent on 4 wheels for a car (like someone mentioned)...

This is going to be bad for consumers since fewer choices and prices may rise.

They're operating within the law and were granted patents. Hate the game, not the player.

So given lawyer's fees and stuff, will Apple end up with the equivalent of elevnty thousand $50 off coupons for Galaxy Tab products?

I was mostly speaking in general terms about business. In this case the patent laws may need to tweaked yet they were given so I understand how they cannot just be ignored if the company makes an issue of it. Now Apple could ignore it if they wanted to.

I hear sooner or later all non-Apple phones will be triangular, due to the fact that Apple has a patent on the rectangular shape......LMAO

Sucks to do business in america....

Wonder why Apple ain't going after those Chinese who cloned their ipods?

You know, Mead should be pissed. They should sue Apple for infringing on their idea for a small, portable, tablet like device for easily transporting contacts, notes, message, etc on a flat customizable surface that conveniently fits in a shirt pocket.

Of course they could, but that wouldn't make very good business sense.

you can only ignore it if you have money... just like you also need money if you want to enforce it..

When rich companies STEAL smaller company's patent its easy cause small companies don't have the legal $$$ to start a legal fight..

There were 773 individual questions that the jury was supposed to apply to 28 individual devices. The jury claims it did so in just 20 hours. In deliberating, a jury is supposed to examine each question fully and exhaustively, even if they think they know what their vote will be at the outset. Samsung should appeal, if only on the grounds that the jury disregarded its duty to deliberate.

I think the jury was simply overwhelmed with the task they were asked to do and voted their gut. It seems to me that any reasonable person would take more than 20 hours to discuss, debate, and then answer a complex list of 773 questions pertaining to 28 separate devices, even if they weren't rank amateurs.

Be honest: could you actually examine all the evidence 773 times, from the beginning each and every time, and then fill out a form like this?

Look, you're biased because you think this decision benefits you. I think any honest person would have to admit that it would take 20 hours just to fill out a 773 question survey, without deliberating.
