Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)

1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)

2. Hard-to-destroy stuff

-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)

- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)

- Here are a couple that have survived Sophie so far:
  • Busy Buddy bouncy bone - We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
  • Everlasting treat ball -Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
  • Jolly Ball: - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
  • Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

What Sophie did not get to eat today: The fledgling blue jay sitting on the front drive, looking chewable. I didn't know a dog could press her nose against a glass storm door so hard without breaking out the other side.

I know... he has been behaving which is odd, granted now that I type that... I am asking for trouble...

He recently learned to open the screen to the patio door with his nose.. He can get in, but I have to keep it locked so he does not go out. If only I could teach him to shut it behind him. The other day there were more bugs inside than out.

and.. to stay on topic... he just ate a half a hot dog.. I made 3 and was pretty full... He is like a furry little garbage disposal...

True story,
one time my best friend and her sister stayed the night at my house. My mom kept getting mad that those girls would just take food without asking. But she didn't want to yell at them so she just let it go.... Then my friends sister walked by and said to my mom. "Wow, these are really good". My mom looked at her and said "Those are dog treats"

She was eating pupperoni Rofl2

Well my 15 week old puppy has not chewed up anything major yet.
- Tries for every shoe in the house but me and the wife catch him so just a chewed up shoelace so far.
- Stuffed anaimls have been licked and nibbled on but not chewed through yet.
- Parts of two rugs have been nibbled on but just some stings are out so far.
Mostly the dog likes to eat grass. Lots and lost of grass. If you catch him doing it and yell his name he looks up at you and it seems he has a green goatee. Funny.

So, Oscar came with us to the in-laws house over the weekend. My BIL has a husky that is just about 1 year old... same age as Oscar. Well they don't leave eachother alone for one second of the whole weekend. They're constantly in play mode. Problem is... his dog bites... and has supernaturally sharp teeth. Somehow this dog missed the class where he should have been taught the difference between play biting and real biting. Oscar has upwards of 200 puncture wounds on his neck and cheeks. It's kinda hard to describe... his neck and cheeks are just peppered with hundreds of scabs from bites. This happens every damn time they're around eachother.. and it takes Oscar about 3-4 weeks to fully heal up. But honestly... he doesn't seem to mind! Am I being stupid when I finally said this weekend that I'd had enough and I just won't bring Oscar whenever this dog is around?

(There's an odd family dynamic going on... battle of who's got the better dog..) Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Well no.... not exactly... his own dog bites him too. He just isn't the best trainer.

Maybe it's what you wish your dog had eaten today--too bad Oscar didn't give BIL's dog a good nip and get him to cut it out. But you probably don't encourage your dog to bite and attack, for good reason.

I don't blame you for saying you won't bring Oscar back when this dog is there! Sounds like BIL thinks his dog is just fine as is...but some folks are the same way with their kid when they visit or go out in public: think it's cute when they break things, are rude, have fits etc. No one can stand kids like that, but the parents don't get it. (I am not a kid hater, BTW--we have 3). Same thing with some dog owners, though: Some folks let their dogs be total terrors around others and think they're cute or tough or whatever. Bottom line, your BIL is doing his dog no favors by letting it play so roughly with Oscar. What a bummer that he keeps bringing it to family get togethers.

Poor Oscar. Give him a pat for Sophie and me Frown
