Dog chew toys that don't get them in trouble: Add your dog's favorites! (Thanks, daisee)

1. Fun stuff
- We leave empty cardboard boxes for the dogs to chew up. Also these loofah bones (cleans their teeth while they rip them apart) and TONS of cat toys (with catnip). (from veritableqndry)

2. Hard-to-destroy stuff

-At dollar tree they carry "milkbone" toys... she beats the hell out of them and still they hold up. (not to mention their only a buck if they destroy them) (from wakethewicked2)

- I've had good luck with these -- the avatar dog has destroyed everything but this kind. They come in different sizes and shapes and you can put treats inside for them to dig out: http://www.petmountain.com/produc...-kong.html . I get mine at a local farm store, but I'm sure you could get them at places like Pets Mart if you don't want to buy online. (from callpocket)

- Here are a couple that have survived Sophie so far:
  • Busy Buddy bouncy bone - We gave up on the rawhide inserts. She rips those out in seconds but likes the toy without them anyhow and cannot kill it.)
  • Everlasting treat ball -Again she pulls out the expensive inserts right off the bat...but she likes bouncing the toy. You can also hide dog kibble in the middle for the dog to try to get out, which entertains him for awhile. She hasn't managed to rip this one at all yet even though it feels soft and flexible.
  • Jolly Ball: - Ours is bigger than the one at this link. It's hysterical to see her stick her snout in the hole and wave the ball in the air. It's bigger than her head. She runs around the house with it on her snout, growling and acting like a maniac. I don't know why she can't chew it up, but she can't.
  • Then there are big Nylabones, which she can kill eventually. But they take a long time to die. (from olu)

Awww......fostering dogs, are we now? What ever happened to the cuteness nearby?

We are currently babysitting a black lab named Maverick (Kulani's BF) and what appears to be part chow/yellow lab mix named Sydney. Sydney popped her front legs up on the counter and ate a chocolate bar. EEK! At the time, I didn't know it was her. I just saw a Dove wrapper on the kitchen floor. I kept watching and wondering who did it. Thinking I was going to be footing the bill for an emergency vet visit. No one ever got sick. bounce Then....a couple a days after, I caught Sydney in the kitchen with her front paws on the counter sniffin' around. Pretty sure she is the culprit. nod If it had been Kulani, I know this would have been a totally different ending. If she looks at her food crosseyed, she'll get sick. laugh out loud

Oh....two more things. We finally got a Petco here. (Still no PetSmart though) Went to inquire about getting my cat shaved and they said it would be $105!!! EEK! WTF? My cat isn't that bushy! Blush3

Went back to buy some dog food (with coupons, of course) and there was a Great Dane in there being groomed. Big guy weighed 190 pounds!!!! Wonder what it cost to get him groomed? laugh out loud

Well behaved dogs are boring... Sure they may be cute and all that

It is a well known fact that the naughty ones are even cuter after a "My Dog Ate ______" stories... Those dogs are known for hamming it up when they are caught... You wanna smack them, then they look at you and do some random cute or awesome thing that makes you wanna laugh and totally ruin the Bad Cop Routine that is required to scold them....

They all charge a small fortune. I made the mistake of telling them Gus is part Poodle. One of the most expensive cuts. They were OK. Petsmart has him on file as a 60 pound mutt, and charge me less for the same cut. I always wait for the coupons. Get 5 off 25 or 10 off 50. Then I would pay for the bath 40 bucks, plus a box of Milk Bones to hit 50. Come back and pick him up and depending on who is working it is 40-50 for the cut, again I use a coupon to save. Then the tip. The young lady at this location is smoking hot, she gives a great cut. I always flirt with her, give a nice tip and sometimes throw a free Starbucks card I got from a SD. Last time I told her Gus is a Babe magnet, she said her dog is too! Bigeye I really do not know what that meant or what to say at that point. So I did the only thing I could think of, I opened up my trench coat, dropped it, and ran away - with Gus following me...

I have a long haired cat and I always get her shaved in the summer. Some people think that means bald, but she just ends up looking like a short haired cat and she really is much more comfortable. Anyways I took her to petco once and I know it wasn't that much, but they barely even trimmed her and her fur was still full of clumpies Annoyed

I found a local groomer who does a great job Whee it used to be $30, but they raised the price to $40. still its totally worth it.

My vet said that many fluffy (euphemism for chunky) long hairs get lots of matts where they can't groom themselves. And Chudley is very errr.....fluffy. So there are lots of places he can't groom. laugh out loud I really want him shaved but jeez....But thanks for the idea Daisee, I think I will look local. Thumbup

Isnt that the 100% truth.
Was getting it on as typical Sunday night fashion. Usually Tails sits outside the door and cries and cries and cries, since he follows me around when I am home (he will get up from his nap, follow me to the kitchen, watch me drink a glass of water, and go back to the living room... but I digress)... But this time, he only cried for like 3 seconds!

Well... 30mins later when we emerged, there was a wet spot in front of the door. Walk into the living room, and well his ears were lowered, big eyes, and his Tail was half thumping on the ground... awww... bastard.

A phone book...

It all started with Gus sitting on the top of the couch growling at something outside. This went on for a few hours. When I let him out the back door, he ran around to the front and stopped at the end of the driveway. So I went out, he was sitting there making low growling noises.

I walked across the street to the mailbox and pick up the new phone book off the ground. I walk back up the drive and Gus snags the yellow bag the phone book came to out of my hand. He ran to the back yard, he swung it back and forth, I thought he was going to knock himself out. He made a hole, and the book flew out on the third or fourth run around the yard. He the abandoned the bag and picked up the book. After running around with it for a bit, he drops it. The wind caught a page and it blew up... Gus freaked and ripped it out, and it blew away in the wind. He most have thought this was an AWESOME game, cause he did it a few more times.

So... I had to go pick up a few dozen pieces of paper, I had a mutilated yellow bag in my hand anyway.. The phone book, is still in the yard, not far from Danny Glover. Danny is a glove Gus picked up on a walk, and keeps in the yard, I threw it out once, but it somehow migrated back to the yard cause. I am gonna keep it because he frequently plays with that as well. I do not have the heart to throw out his new toys just yet.
