Tablet for a 9 year old?

I'm not sure where to post this...so I hope I chose the correct forum. I am looking to get my son a tablet for Christmas. The thing is I have no idea at what tablet to even start looking at. I would like it to be below $300.00. He will use it mainly for playing games and watching tv or movies. I would like to be able to download a lot of movies so we can get rid of the old portable dvd player and dvd case when taking long car trips.
Essentially I want it to replace the whole DVD issue as they are a hassle in the car and keep him from always draining my battery on my Evo. We don't need to download books as we have a kindle.
If it could stream netflix that would be great too.
I appreciate any suggestions....I have been looking at the google nexus tablet but am not sure if it's the best tablet for my son as I want to download a lot of movies.

The once to twice a year that you drive far enough to coddle him with a movie, let him watch a movie on your tablet.
Tablet I would recommend for an adult? Hands down ipad 3, incredible resolution for reading PDF and all other books.

I do think the $60 tablet is cool. Will I let the twerps have free reign with them? Not a chance. But when "everyone" has an iPod Touch around here, this is a great gadget for them to play with and I won't mind if they break it in the first year because of the replacement guarantee! Bonus!

It is not about disagreeing at all. If I had posted a thread for example "Should I get my son a tablet" I would not have gotten angry. It's about posting a thread asking for help. I don't get why people feel the need to respond if there not offering advice. If I see a topic I disagree with then I just read on. I never once said it is a rule people can't disagree with me. I posted asking for advice on a tablet.

Again as I stated before. We take at least 2 trips a month....that's a little more than once or twice a year.

I was under the impression that the ipad couldn't play movies due to some licensing? Maybe the new ones can? I would be willing to increase my budget if they could. One of my daycare kids is autistic and his mother told me they have him doing some learning program on an ipad at school to help with his autism. It would be great if the Ipad did play movies cause then I could get another use out of it.

At that price, my 7 and 9 yr old boys will each have one for Christmas! It'll run apps from the Android App Store and from Google Play.
