[I want to preface this by saying this is not meant to be a thread throwing blame at one side or the other...there's an entire different section for that. This is just to get people's feedback on recent news....]
Never thought I'd use the words secession and viral in the same sentence, but that seems to be the trend on Facebook and Twitter over the last few days. It seems as though the government has received petition requests from at least 40 states (different articles report different stats) and over 700,000 people and steadily rising.
I'm just happy to see that people are finally making the progression from backroom murmur and rumblings to now be willing to sternly voice their displeasure with our current system. I don't know that a secession will actually happen, but I do believe that this is a step in the right direction for the people to pave their own futures.

It's actually hard to find results from the larger known media outlets as they don't even seem to be reporting on it.

Besides, it wouldn't matter who won anyway...too many things beyond repair. IMO, this would of happened sooner or later. If a fresh face was put into the White House, people may of held back for a bit, but once they saw that they are all the same, regardless of party affiliation, this series of events would of happened eventually.
Judging from Angry's past posts, I don't think he fits into that bitter republican category but someone who is not satisfied with the current situation regardless of party.
As far as the Republicans, give me a RP or a Huntsman and you can have my vote.

It's amazing how many people are still in Senate that I remember from Model US Senate in high school. I don't share your belief that it's beyond repair, but we're not going to get there when no one is willing to compromise or sacrifice.

people are free to disagree with the policies of this administration, and there are many i don't agree with, but this response is so far out of proportion to the policies/actions that it reeks of immaturity and childishness. we as a citizenry still have ways to influence policies and elections, and just because government makes decisions a tiny minority of people think are bad enough to constitute actual abuse/oppression/etc. doesn't mean the appropriate action is to try to secede the rest of your state with you, many of whom support those same decisions.
it's like a guy on a recreational sports team who disagrees with a new rule in the league. everyone else on the team realizes they have a good league, around half of them think the rule is fine, and most of the other half who don't like it figure they will just talk to the organizers and try to get the rule changed before the next session starts. but there's one guy who, instead of dealing with it and trying to get it changed, says they should go off and form their own league, seemingly oblivious to the huge logistical implications of that decision. it's just a stupid, overblown response.

It has probably been posted in the Podium, but I wouldn't know.
I blame both sides, as in most Democrats and most Republicans.
We should have more than two "sides."
Speaking of pilgrims....They also came to a tipping point to leave/change their status quo...It is inevitable that we would think the same....but at this point we really have nowhere to run to...so back against the wall we fight!!!

I've never said anything about not aspiring to be anything better and just accept the status quo, only that things can always be worse. This secession thing seems like an overreaction to me.
The governments job is to protect the people and they do so by making laws. These are the laws that gave women the right to vote and made sure that blacks were recognized as people not property. Only through cooperation are we able to grow stronger

I agree with the sentiment of the last paragraph, but government has shown repeatedly that they do not have the people's best interest in mind...hence why many people are looking for ways to sever their ties to this system in one manner or another.
