The Official Car Talk Thread

I suppose can continue the conversation from the Funniest Pics thread here, along with any other car talk..

Quote from Jabbit :
The SLS is pretty nuts, I have seen a couple on the streets and they sounds almost musclecar-ish. I also saw an Enzo at the car show (it was actually Cars & Coffee in Irvine CA which is pretty well known). I would like an older M3, the last one that had the inline-6. I have never been in one but they seem like they would be a lot of fun. Not really practical in New England though.

We should start an official "Car Chat" thread.
That enzo is awesome. I spotted a 599GTO at F1 as well. There were a few people leaning up against it taking pics. If I was the owner I'd have been pissed.

BMW is bringing back the straight 6 for 2013 (or maybe 14).. They're doing a twin turbo version in the name of fuel economy. There was rumor about there being a third turbo in there too.

Say that you won the $500mil Powerball that is coming up....what would be your TOP 10 car purchases and why?

Here are mine (in no particular order)

1. Ariel Atom - They look like they would be a blast to drive
2. Nissan Skyline R34 Nismo Z-Tune - really rare, right-hand drive, I liked Skylines before they were cool [/hipster]
3. Ford F-150 Raptor - Everyone needs a pickup truck
4. Ford Shelby GT500 - Love the way they look/sound
5. Hummer H1 - Because I have driven one and they are awesome
6. Mercedes Benz S600 - So people think I am a rapper or drug dealer
7. Viper SRT-10 Convertible - I have driven one and they are brutal (in a good way)
8. BMW X5M - For the wife to drive around
9. Ferrari 458 Spider - Amazing car
10. An old Chevelle or Nova with an Nelson Racing Engine under the hood - because who doesn't want over 1k whp?!

Looking forward to reading other lists.

I'll have to think about it more, but I think my daily driver would be a Volvo V70R. Station wagon with 300HP and AWD? Cool2
Probably a customized VW bus, I couldn't bear to take a real 23 window and put a Subaru H6 in it, so I'd find some other suitable candidate and have it hacked into a 23 window (might actually be cheaper that way anyhow laugh out loud).

Hard to narrow it down and pick between practicality and a shit-ton of fun.. But here goes, no particular order:

1. 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - My dream car
2. DBS Volante - Who doesn't want a convertible Aston to cruise in?
3. Ford F150 - King Ranch edition - I like the KR's and why not have a truck.
4. Range Rover - Practical SUV
5. M5 - "Practical" Sport Sedan
6. Porsche Cayman - Current "dream" car that is within reach win the next 2-3 years.
7. Porsche GT3 RS - Gotta have a kick ass track car
8. C63 AMG Black Series - Really like the C-Class AMGs
9. Ferrari F12, just love, love, love how this car looks
10. 1969 Chevelle SS - American Muscle and wanted this one when I was a kid.

The Atom is a good choice too.. If I was to add that, I would drop the Cayman and the GT3 RS. Get a top-end 911 turbo and the Atom instead.

Meh. That kind of cash you'd have no issue keeping up a pretty top of the line 20+ car garage anyway..

Yeah that is what I was thinking. The Z-Tune would be tough to find (if not impossible) because there were only 20 of them. If I had to expand the list to 20 there would definitely be a Porsche and Aston in there, too.

I think I'd still have some issues spending a crap ton of money on cars, not that I wouldn't want to do it.. But like even if I took the $330 million cash option, I still probably wouldn't be happy shelling out the $700k that the 300SL will pretty much dictate. I mean that list of cars I had above is close to $2mil, if not more.

This:

The custom/fabrication work in this thing is unbelievable. And guaranteed nobody else would own another one just like it. I think it sold a few years ago at auction for about $250,000.

So it's what looks like a Vette engine, but what was that vehicle originally?

'55 Chevy Nomad originally. Very little that hasn't been altered though.

It took something like 24,000 man-hours to build.

Yeah, in general I'm not a fan of huge wheels and low-profile tires either. And I want to drive on real roads so being slammed to the ground isn't very practical.

I can guarantee my truck won't have that look when I finally finish it.
