This thread is being created so people -- generally, those people who can't seem to resist talking about off-topic junk in the Target coupon thread -- have a place to talk about shopping at Target and other miscellaneous matters.

All you folks who hang out in the Target coupon thread, start hanging out here instead! When you've got something relevant to post about Target coupons, please post about it in the Target coupon thread! We'd love to hear about it, but NOT about your dog, your cat, your mom, your genital herpes, your... well, you get the idea.

hug I'm so sorry your DS is sick. That totally sucks. Are you ILs in town? I was hoping you would at least have a little help. My SIL has twins and she learned very early on that it was impossible to keep them separated. Hang in there!

Welllll, while as a parent I'm happy that the boy is okay (for the first 45 minutes or so after the story broke, I wasn't too optimistic...especially when they had found the balloon WITHOUT the box under it)....

Gotta say, it seems kinda disingenuous for a purely experimental balloon thingamabob like that---which the family claims was never intended to carry a passenger---would have an attachment which could be used to, well, carry a passenger.

Somebody needs to kick in a little dough to the state for all of the money spent on helicopters and ground personnel used during the tracking.

I bet their fellow Coloradan taxpayers are thrilled beyond belief!

alright chatters, I'm in a conundrum. my DD who has never really asked to be anything at Halloween (allowing me free reign over costumes Teehee) has finally asked to be something this year. She wants to be a shark. She has even perfected her Jaws chomp but I cannot find a decent shark costume ANYWHERE outside of Ebay. I've missed a few auctions on ones in her size and some of the Pottery Barn ones are $80+ Bigeye I keep running across a big shark eating a person (not what she has in mind!!!) and a shark you wear around your middle but that's it. HELP!!!! I've Binged, Ebayed, Googled, urlhasbeenblocked, etc. just finding stores I wasn't familiar with and no cute shark costume in a 4-6x range for sizing.

Comfort That sucks! But I'm going to be honest and say we didn't even try to do the isolation thing when DS was sick (even let him sleep on the couch while younger DS sat next to him), and no one else got sick. So it's not a given that your DD will get it too. One thing we did do was write their names on their water bottles and juice boxes so there was no mix up there.
Hope your son feels better. Did they prescribe Tamiflu? I'm telling you, that stuff seemed to kick in instantly!

Thanks, ladies, for your advice and kindness!! hug This job is just causing me so much stress nowadays (last 6 months) and I thought I would be ok since I had been there so long. :
Hugs are in order for you. I know I can totally relate, maybe I cannot write this all down correctly. But I do understand that the way you compensate for your hearing loss others around you might not understand.

The behavior of this "evil" woman, Yes is uncalled for. Those are the people that truly do not understand how hard we work to get our work assignments completed.

I still have anger issues over an old foreman at one of the factory jobs. I tried to go to HR about it. Meetings were called and the end result was...I was out the door; I had to take a laid off. Foreman didn't have to change his ways. His training methods were considered acceptable. But for me it was a whole new area; with all new terminology and equipment.

I do believe you in you. Yes, please try to find a transfer to another department. I personally remember hating to go to work for that horrible foreman. I still do not like the thought of what they did to me. Yes, I took it very personal.

Sweetie--- My trade I am a business consultant which tends to tell strengths, weaknesses and ways to improve, blah, blah, blah. What happened to you today by your coworker is considered harassment and you need to go to HR and get both your coworker's and supervisiors response to the situation. If HR does nothing, contact the head of HR. Communicating the issue is key!! I have worked at a company similar to this where the tension grew and grew and I am a very petite female and had my truck keyed with "B----" written on it.. this was simply because I work and have children... and I was white and she did not want white women to be on the same level as black women... whatever it is stupid.. however, I did not make a big deal initally out of it until it continued.. Please make sure you cover your own behind... contact HR immediately!! Sorry you had a bad day : ( Hopefully your milkshake helped some : ) HUGS and wishing you a better day tomorrow : ) :hug :
Thanks for your advice! hug Wow, on your experience! EEK! I wrote down an "incident statement" and do have a call to someone in HR (left a voicemail). In my investigating this morning it appears that the HR dept here do not do much of anything about these kinds of situations. Frown

And, yes!! The milkshake defintely helped! Big Grin

So sorry this was allowed to happen. Going to HR is an option, but it would be overstepping your supervisor and may cause things to get worse on that end (been there done that). Maybe you could send an email to your supervisor to summarize the discussion you had with her, and mention in it that you expect something to be done, as you consider this type of behavior to be an attack. that way, you have it in writing should you need it down the road. Could be that your supervisor just isn't knowledgeable in handling these types of things (been there, doing that)

*snip*
Thanks, Teri. hug I thought about that too, but the supervisor was there at the incident yesterday and spoke to me afterwards saying that she thinks we need to improve our communication skills. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) She's pretty much useless...but I do like the idea of emailing a summary to her. I did mention that it was a hostile attack yesterday to her and she pretty much glazed over it. I do think the supervisor has not dealt with this kind of situation before. Another thing is that our emails are open to the public (we are a public institution) and I am not too crazy about putting this out there... Scratchchin What to do...

Yes, you can relate! We deal with things that others do not and so they never seem to understand! Thanks, kopenney, your words really helped. I'm so sorry you had a really bad ending to a really bad experience! hug

This institution seems to want to sweep things under the rug a lot of times and it really is very difficult to have any HR involvement. I've been searching for a transfer, but nothing is coming up. Frown

Now to look forward to our staff meeting today... Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Ranting Ok, had a crappy end to my work day... I have this co-worker that is borderline nuts. She does things very oddly and differently, but I never really let her bug me or let what she does bother me. I'm pretty easy going. Well, she decides to flip out on me today - full on yelling and finger jabbing and head bobbing/weaving. Called me a liar and that what I was saying (to defend against her crazy accusations) were lies. : eek: WTH?!? This came out of left field. Luckily (or maybe not) my supervisor was there and saw/heard the whole thing. Whenever I tried to say something or to clarify whatever it was she was incoherently rambling about, she would yell some more and not let me speak. Really, she was acting like such a child! (And, she has a Masters degree!!) I was so shocked. I honestly did not do anything, but this girl really has the mentality that everyone is out to get her (probably because she is a bit of a back-stabber and such so people tend to shy away from her). My supervisor could not get control of the situation and so I just let the co-worker finish spewing her junk and calmly explained that her assumptions about some of my actions were incorrect and explained that there are certain reasons why I do certain things (related to my hearing loss). Supervisor says that it appears better communitcation needs to be had, but really, I cannot communitcate any clearer than what I currently do! I don't have any issues (and never had any issues in the 8 years of being there) with anyone else.

I'm at a loss... It's been bugging me all evening and I am still very angry about this situation. The question I have for you all is what do I do next? When I left the office, I called my supervisor and left a message that what happened today was not cool, and that I did not appreciate it and it needed to be addressed. She calls me back and basically says that she was 'sad' to see our interaction (co-worker yelling, me calm and collect) and that it appears we need better communication. WTF?!? This is not the only time a situation has come up with her and the "lying" deal (another incident happened with a student, but I chalked it up as the student was lying and not her - I know different now!).

Should I go to HR about this and have this documented somewhere or should I wait and see how she is tomorrow (if she apologizes or not) and see what the supervisor does? We do have a staff meeting (it was planned way before this) and so I am guessing it will be addressed. I'm so frustrated!!! Almost to the point of tears. My DH has been trying to make me feel better, but this really bugged me! To be called a liar!!! I do not lie!! If anything, she seems to stretch the truth at times, but like I said earlier, I never let it bother me.

What do I do?

Sorry for the long rant... : sadwalk:
Before I even got to the part that you ask if you should go to HR a little voice in my head kept screaming go to HR. I cannot believe your boss dismissed/poo-poo it! Perhaps your boss is one that really doesn't deal with these types of situations well whether it be poor training or just their type of personality. This goes beyond bullying in the workplace and needs to be addressed and documented!

It's a shame when urlhasbeenblocked can't even save the day. Teehee Can you just do a gray sweatsuit with a fin on the back and a shark type mask/hood. IDK if they even sell just the mask. If you know someone that sews I'm thinking it couldn't be that tough to whip up. I've sewn every Halloween costume that Mini has worn. I'd offer, but my plate is a little full with LJ and moving in 2 weeks. Bigeye

My predicament of the day. I have never flown with an infant before. Is the infant carseat considered a checked bag or can I take it to the gate and have them tag it and stow it below the plane. I have visions of them throwing the seat around like a rag doll. I don't want it to be compromised due to its handling as a checked bag. Also, I don't want to have to pay upwards of $20 to check it. I've narrowed my choices down to Frontier (price and short flight duration) and Southwest (price is the same as Frontier, flight duration is slightly longer with a later arrival time  but 2 checked bags free). If I have to pay to check the seat that will help make my decision of Southwest.

SG, if HR is not accessible and your boss isn't going to address the situation properly...you need to document everything that took place yesterday. Do it now while it is fresh in your memory!

Toots! How about getting a gray hooded sweatsuit and getting white felt for the teeth googly eyes and gray felt and batting for the fin. You can hand whipstitch the fin on and hot glue the teeth and eyes. Heck I'm sure you could hot glue the whole thing or staple it Teehee

I can't link the pic but here's the url that give you an idea of how it would look.
