We like to sleep in, but that's the way we vacation too. We see what we see & don't worry about fitting everything in. I can no longer go all day, even if we wanted to.

Thanks for the info. I may need a backup movie in case this one bores DH. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime movies, & Roku (or something like that ), but rarely watch movies.

No. Still too much. The only reason I return a few is to decrease my points and get credit to buy more.

that's a nice way to vacation. i don't get to travel as much as i used to, so this results in me wanting to do everything in a short amt of time. i'm lazy at home, but on vacation i'm very energetic and can run on little sleep.

i just checked out netflix last night after azn posted about that movie, and i noticed that they seem to have added a lot of movies lately. there are a whole bunch in my queue that i will probably never get to, but it's nice to know they're there! (before this i probably haven't looked at the selection for at least 3 months)

what kinds of movies do you guys like?

We both like movies about natural disasters or natural phenomenon. Most action movies also work for both of us. I like sports related movies & chick flicks. DH tolerates them. I guess that doesn't leave many genres we won't watch, if it's a really good movie. I can watch bad movies, if it's in a genre I generally like. It needs to be a really good movie for others.

it's faster if you drive straight to sf bc you don't have to go thru gilroy. going thru sj takes a lot longer.

i used to visit sd a lot and sometimes i'd make it faster! then again it also depends on where you're going... if la jolla it's like an hour 15 from db.

If we lived in CA, we'd go to SF for weekend getaways as often as possible. I can't believe you all don't go there more often. I suppose as with any place you could eventually get bored visiting the same area all the time.

BTW, is the sushi movie mostly a cooking show or is it a regular movie?

do you guys watch a lot of movies? i actually don't watch many at all, and it sounds like there's not much overlap between what i like and what you like. i'm probably not the best person to recommend stuff.

I used to think that too when I was young, but the drive is totally killer If you can also go the long way and see the coast, which is BEAUTIFUL, but an EVEN LONGER drive.

Red and nerdi is right, it's a documentary. It's not only about food, but the exquisite and painstaking methods Jiro goes to ensure his food is the way he wants it. And I also saw it as a philosophy on life. It was just overall great! Great score, great camera angles, production value, etc...just overall well rounded. I was hungry the whole entire time

If you want a loveable puppy, but heart wrenching movie, try Hachi: A Dog's Tale. Beautiful move. I love dogs and I already knew about the real life story and the take on it is just wonderful.

I highly enjoyed the TV miniseries "The Kennedys" I definitely recommend that.

I want to watch Gangster Squad! I LOOOOOOOVED Public Enemy. I really like throwback movies and period pieces. I like gangster movies The Untouchables. I think Iike what the women wore and how the men were always dressed up to anything they go to!

I also enjoy some superhero ones. I really liked The Amazing Superman. The Avengers. And the new Batman series reboot. The Watchmen was good too!
Of course the Ocean's series I liked the Bourne Series with Matt Damon, The Adjustment Bureau, The Tourist (Jolie & Depp are amazing in that)

For Sci-Fi, Super 8 kept me on my seat. Inception is AMAZING.

I can't think of anything else...my memory is lacking

I thought I liked chic flicks, but I tried watching some Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts movies and they are just so bad to me!

I am not really a movie goer and when I do watch something, I pick and choose. I go to the theatres for the REALLY REALLY REALLY good ones. I only want to watch the good stuff. But some others I just let it run in the background when I'm doing something else if it's too quiet and I don't feel like listening to music.

Is $19.99 as good as it gets for VS velour classic pants. If I wait for a % off code, will they sell out at that price?

be prepared with teabags if you watch hachi. i love/hate those movies. i always end up crying my eyes out.

i think i liked all the other movies you mentioned azn. i do like the summer blockbusters, but only the ones that don't have stupid dialogue. i especially liked the avengers bc i thought it was well-written (but the ironman series all were also). i despise movies that are all action and crappy dialogue - i can't handle it!

i never saw watchmen or the new spiderman. or the adjustment bureau. or super 8. i enjoyed the tourist and love the bourne series as well.

Awesome article about packing. I seem to pack the same kind of clothes for Seattle. All the cotton rib sweaters take up a lot of room

Maybe after watching, your DH won't fancy the sushi being served at the resort anymore

but i just have to say, i cringed when i saw her nasty old tennis shoes on her white bed! sorry, but i just can't get over that. i mean, i wouldn't put ANY of the shoes on any surface other than the tile floor of my entryway. but somehow the sneakers got to me the most, prob bc they look the most worn. but obviously a seasoned traveler wouldn't bring brand new shoes on a trip so all those shoes must be worn, which i think is gross.

Definitely harder when packing for the cold. I, too, can't imagine putting dirty shoes in the house, much less on the bed.

I already watched Hachi! I was a mess! Makes me treasure my time with my dog even more. I tried getting an Akita since I was young because of their loyalty, not because of the movie or anything, but instead got a crazy Akita mix every time! Even this one! But I try to be there for my dog when I can. Especially like last week, she was in such a bad bad mood, with the cold weather and the wind. She hates the wind. Dogs are better than humans. If we can strive for just 10% of the loyalty they have, I think the human race would be much better off.

I TOTALLY forgot about Ironman! Yes - loved it! I thought the first Spiderman sucked. Andrew Garfield is fantastic! So is Emma Stone! Speaking of which, The Social Network was amazing!

Yeah, I agree. A good movie needs to have action and good dialogue! Have you seen The Graduate? It's an old movie, but it's good. They play old movies at my favorite bar/lounge in Downtown Fullerton.

The last time I went to the theatre was for The Avengers. I want to see Life of Pi, but I think I can wait until it gets out.

I don't have a favorite actress really. I liked Emma Stone a lot! But I love Angelina Jolie. I got hooked on her from the Tomb Raider days because I played the games And Matt Damon. I him! and Leonardo Dicaprio! Especially more so because of Inception.

I've only done this kind of packing once- definitely took the anxiety out of the process : ) Winter packing is very hard. I have compressible bags for bulky stuff.
On the sushi- That is my hope! We just get so dang lazy living here. Actually, we have a Bristol Farms with a sushi chef (?!). The dude is amazing- throwing down dynamite rolls and what not for take out. He does the sashimi, but let's be real here- I'm buying it from a glorified grocery store :lo l:

That's a very cultural phenomenon. In college, it was 3 against 1 in the debate over whether to be a shoes-off household. 3 caucasians, 1 japanese. I remember sitting on her bed and my shoes brushed against her dust ruffle and she freaked out :l ol: Yes, we had a dirty carpet - it was college though, I'm not going barefoot anywhere! In HS, my boyF (Chinese) and his fam didn't say anything but I could tell I should take my shoes off, so I did. Another boyF (Taiwanese) it was the same. FWIW, we are now a shoes-off household. I can appreciate not tracking dirt in b/c I don't want to have to wash the carpets :no d:
It's very far. DH is from SJ, so we're up in the vicinity several times a year- taking the train over to the city. The smell of piss in some of those cars burns my nostrils ... it was time for a break!
SD is 2.25 hrs for me, SF is 6 hrs. I'm good for SD (I grew up there), but I can't speak for everyone else. We could meet you in Newport Beach or something - you could see Crystal Cove, where they filmed the Bette Midler movie 'Beaches'. There's a restaurant on the beach too that's really good. I'll leave it to Azn, she seems to be the SoCal SD Ambassador
