another question: sephora, macys, bloomies, or marshalls/tjmaxx/homegoods? i want to redeem cc points and these are the only ones i may be interested in that i've seen so far where i don't lose value.

I love TJ Maxx, but that's because I also really know how to shop there. That's the one I would pick for sure! I seem to always have sephora credit for one reason or another, and macy's doesn't let you use the coupons with gc's.
i don't shop at tjmaxx much - the ones here don't really have good stuff often. i always have sephora credit also, so it's really not high up there on the list.

A few weeks ago, I bought an 18k Judith Ripka necklace there. The MSRP was around 3k. TJX original price was $1,800. The lady at the jewelry counter was watching it for me and put it aside after it was marked down a few times. I always bring her chocolate.
I ended up paying just less than $400 for it. It missed a markdown, so they marked it down twice the next cycle, and she put it aside for me. The gold is worth more. I look at it like an "investment," but every once in a while, you can really time their jewelry, especially when you have allies
