I hate it when people try to over-positive-spin things, but I was in a similiar situation, in a job that I hated the environment. Getting laid off from that job was wonderful, because I was making good enough money that I would've probably never left on my own. After doing contracts for awhile, I landed a decent job.. Not a dream job, but at least it's tolerable most of the time, and the hours are much better.
So I hope it works out well for you too. Not having to deal with Stalin is a good thing for sure.
