I want to put pickles on more types of sandwiches. My Safeway started selling some brand of hot & spicy dill pickle chips and I bought every container they had. They haven't restocked yet Sadwalk and the non-hot variety hasn't sold a single jar. Down But I'm hoping they get more. Anyway I've been putting them on roast beef, turkey, ham... I wonder how a grilled cheese melt would be if I stuck the pickles in while it was cooking, ala a Cuban sammich?

Also, banana peppers.

Did you ever make your own pickles? It's simple and cheap, and you make them how YOU want them drool

oh yeah, and something really nice/cool/sweet happened.

some random guy that i've met once at that bar saw me celebrating when he got there, so he left the bar and went to the store and returned with a bouquet of yellow daisies for me. Cloud9

it isn't what you're thinking though. laugh out loud here's what happened the one night i met him. it was one of those "Buy the pint, keep the glass" nights, and it was the week of Valentine's Day. the pint glass was really cool, and it was a wheat beer so i actually bought a pint of it to get the glass, and my friend was with me and she was broke - so i ended up buying 2 pints, and getting 2 glasses. well this guy bought the last glass they had. when he finished the beer, he realized the bottom of his glass was cracked and broken. there were no more glasses, and he was a little sad that he didn't have a glass. i gave him one of mine, since technically my friend was broke and didn't expect to keep the glass i bought her, she was just happy i bought her beer laugh out loud

so this guy sees it's my birthday, remembers my generosity, and goes to buy me flowers before sitting down to have a few beers. it was really sweet, actually.

by the way, he's mid-50s with a daughter almost my age. it wasn't anything like some of you might be thinking laugh out loud it was just a really nice gesture. it warmed my heart.

mama makes her own pickles with cucumbers from her garden each year, both dill and sweet. last year she also attempted to do banana peppers (pickled, of course) with fresh banana peppers from her garden, but they weren't crisp when we finally tried them. they were mushy Frown so we have to figure out why the pickles end up crisp, but the banana peppers don't.

There's something in pickling spice that keeps the pickled whatevers crisp. I used it with my jalapenos this year and they're not mushy. I bought, um, Heinz pickling spice I think? I'll dig it out and post a link if you're interested.

And no I haven't made my own pickles yet but the plan is to plant cukes this year and then it. Is. ON! Whee

yeah, mama used the same stuff for the peppers that she did for the pickles. so maybe it happened when she was sealing them, or something? i don't know the process so i have no idea.
