Barley water you say? We have barley. How do you prep it? Right now he won't drink anything.

As in chocolate water or coconut water?

The only sodium is what you add to the pig as far as I know. I just went and picked up my pig today (the jowls I cooked today were from the last one). 250lbs of food for $320. You really can't beat that for a pig that only eats organic foods. Hell, you can't get mass produced factory farmed pork chops for that price.
coconut water- super high in electrolytes - also have flavors that might help him get it down

That's value
Do you just go and load up your car with butcher- wrapped meats and pig pieces?

BARLEY WATER FOR INVALIDS

2 tbsp pearled barley
1 qt water

way of preparing:

put the barley over the fire in cold water, let it come to a boil and cook for 5 minutes, then drain off the water and rinse the barley in cold water. Then return it to the fire and add 1 quart of water. Bring it to a boil and simmer until reducedone-half. It may be sweetened and flavored, if desired.

i'm gonna try this one (with goggles)

TO CUT CLASS BOTTLES

Useless bottles may be turned into jelly glasses and jars by cutting off the top down to any required depth. Take common cotton cord and wrap 2 or 3 times around the bottle, a very little below where it is to be divided. Drop alcohol slowly on the cord until it is very saturated, then ignite with a match. When the flame has about dies out, pour a very little cold water, and it will immediately separate as smoothly as if cut.

Yeah pretty much. It's the whole pig. The only thing I don't take from the pig are the chitlins which he keeps, boils, seasons, and make dog food out of. He's got about 5 great pyranese (sp?), and they've never had store bought dog food. They eat scraps. I love the fact that I can throw something in the skillet and know where it came from, know who handled it, and know what it ate. It's not artificially colored, artificially flavored, and artificially raised. It grew up under the same sun and same storm clouds I have lived under eating organic foods from the same soil.

Bigeye That's awesome. Thank you for this! I'm going to send it over to the bride and see if we have enough barley left to do this.

And where can I get one of those books?

Damn. . . . baseball tryouts were moved to Sunday instead of tomorrow. That kind of throws off my schedule.

I've got to put more transmission fluid in the minivan tomorrow. It's leaking pretty severely, and I don't know why or how to find it. I don't think it's the fluid pan because there's residue on the radiator which is more towards the front of the vehicle. Annoyed

I can verify this works on glass a quarter inch or less thick.

Yeah but we go through barely a lot around here.

And hey . . . . all knowledge does not reside and was not always invented in the south. The midwest and PacNW are some of the best places to learn this sort of stuff.
