Quote from vviles :
What is the Chekist?
It was recommended to me by a lawyer friend of mine who went to Harvard. He use to be a socialist and had a life change which made him rethink everything and is now a libertarian. He told me that the socialist group he was in and the other college chapters across the US watched it on principle as an example of what they could do here in America one day. From what I know about it, it is about how the Russians suspended the right to due process. They quit executing dissenters through the courts and started rounding up families and executing them without a trial in their own basements. I think it's fictional, but only in the sense that the characters are made up, but the acts the carry out are not.

Here's a short synopsis:

Quote :
Srubov describes the philosophy of the charming Cheka as follows: "To quell the chaos this country needs a strong, even cruel executive….in the basement, in secret without reading the appeal, with no public impact, morally destroys the individual. After his death, nothing remains; neither the body nor the grave, or any details of his death." Throughout The Chekist, one sees scene after scene of Srubov and his mostly mundane yet largely sadomasochistic men carrying out these killings in a barbaric, heartless, and mechanical fashion. After forcing the prisoners to strip, lines of five naked prisoners are forced to stand with their face against the wall and are subsequently shot. Like dead animals in a butcher shop, a rope is attached around the body of the still warm cadaver, which is then dragged out of the basement while hanging upside down in an opprobrious fashion and thrown into the back of a large truck with hundreds of other naked 'counter-revolutionaries.
It worries me that our lobbyists, lawyers, and politicians in DC watch this film wishing they had that power here.

Did I forget to tell you guys about the Cowboy Junkies concert? Eh, just in case here goes. laugh out loud

It was pretty good! Not my first choice for the type of music but that chick can SING. The venue is nice b/c they have tables and serve dinner. And there are servers to bring drinks and everybody has a place to sit. Margo is funny! At one point she was describing their new project and she was like "it's full of sad songs which, if you're here watching us, I imagine you like." She shilled for their CDs a lot too. And the one dude who isn't her brother who plays guitar is pretty good on that little electric banjo thing (looks like a short electric guitar). Her brother on the drums is fun to watch. I definitely heard some songs I'll look up and buy. They played the entire album "Black Eyed Man" for their second set. I wish more bands would play whole albums straight through! That was cool. They'd done "Trinity Sessions" the night before.

Anyway yeah my buddy is totally smitten with Margo too. I can see why. She really reaches out and squeezes your soul with that voice of hers. Very easy to understand the words to the songs too. I'd go again!

Cowboy Junkies are still around? laugh out loud

That does sound like a kickass concert though. Experiences like that, when they change the venue up to a more relaxed and personal atmosphere, are always awesome.

I'm exhausted after putting down the metal edging this morning. Last weekend, spouse did the hammering while I held the edging steady/in place. This morning, I did it all by myself, then moved a shit/ton of border grass, and dug up three sprinkler heads, breaking the elbow joint on the last one. That's when I quit for the first time, today. We grabbed a burger and cheese fries for lunch, then I came home, took three aspirin, and passed out for three hours. I really needed that nap. After waking up, we went to get weedblock fabric and six .5 cubic foot bags of crushed stone. I lugged them into the walkway and started spreading it around. Those suckers were heavy. I finally hit the shower and truly ENJOYED that farker. I think I must have soaked in the hot spray for almost half an hour. Damn but it felt good.

Maybe there will be many many sexy times because of this weather. It's so cloudy that it's dark outside.
