Do you buy generic or is there a certain brand that is best?

I've had old fashion which are the best, but I've never cooked them. I buy the 15lb bags of quaker oats at sams, and we go through that in about 2 months. That could also explain why we go through 15 lbs of cheddar cheese a month. laugh out loud

Do you have anywhere up there where you can get grits?

Sometimes I throw wheat germ and barley in for flavor and nutrients.

Don't buy instant, they're horrible. I don't generally recommend "Quick" (5-minute) grits, either. I don't think they have the taste or texture of my favorite, "Old Fashioned" grits. They take longer to cook (20 to 30 minutes) because they're larger bits of corn, but they taste SOOOO much better. Generally, you'd use 5 cups of water to 1 cup of grits, but I go 4:1 instead, and don't continue cooking them after they've come to a boil. I find they do a great job soaking up the salted water, just like when steaming rice. Then after they've enjoyed their long soak, I add the half-and-half (or heavy cream, if you're feeling swanky) and give them a great whisking.

Finally, if you can find some locally stone-ground grits [palmettofarms.com], you'll be in heaven.

I'm use to it because my dad always put it in the pancakes he cooked us every Saturday.

We started using it in grits when we were grinding our own wheat berries, but we thought it better to go ahead and put a few hundred pounds in long term storage and just buy flour for right now. When the kids get older and we have the time to mill it ourselves, we'll bust it back out.

ground corn. . . . but you have to use the hominy grits. i think that's the specific species or the part of the kernel. That's the most I've ever researched it. I'm from Georgia. . . . grits are one of those things you just accept as being the fruit of the earth.

Query for the frogs:
If you could get any tablet, regardless of price, which would it be?
Similarly, if you wanted a tablet focusing on best cost/ performance and also wanted the best battery, which would you go with?

Oh sure . . . . because the imaginary pig farmer doesn't know what he's doing. I love my Toshiba Satellite T135 that i picked up for $60 on CL. It's quad core . . . fast . . . works great with Ubuntu. I'd check CL for "notebook". However, I will concede that the frogs have better knowledge on specs than I have. Computers. . . food . . . cars . . . . woodworking . . . . they've got it covered. I do not feel like a man around them. I'll go ahead and say it. Now I'm depressed. I'm gonna go bang the wife for a few hours. Sadwalk

Ja, for the plane. I really want good battery life, but I'm woefully undereducated on tablets and don't feel like learning how I usually do: which is to pour money into buying one, realizing what I don't like, buying another, rinse, repeat.

And hug back

Sadly, I knew I would get a comment like this, but typing "the frogs" and taking any other advice offered seemed a lot easier than typing out every name that could help.

And let's face it, the fact that you raise imaginary pigs is so out-there-cool that who cares if you don't know about that other stuff.

Will you check in from abroad?
When I last went to Hawaii, the plane had little charging stations for phones/iPods at the seats. I don't think they were big enough for computers though.

You could have said Klingon instead of frogs?

Aye. The best pigs are the ones you don't have to clean up after. Good luck on your quest. Cheers
