i'm going to write down every bit of advice i get in this thread, and use it when i talk to them on Monday morning. i'm tempted to call and leave a message on the Service department voicemail and tell them NOT to do any work on the plugs until they've talked to me. That way I can get a few questions answered. She mentioned $180 over the phone, and that is not the cost of a few spark plugs. I don't know if she included the oil change in that, but even if she did, that's still WAY too expensive.

Sigh. Blargh.

Thanks F1 for any help you can provide

It's hard to imagine the plugs costing over $20 each, even that seems like a stretch. I'd wonder if they plan to do the plug wires too, those probably wouldn't be covered under your warranty, and you may not need them--given your current financial situation, if they aren't causing the misfire, they'll probably last you a while longer.

Engine bays in newer cars are awful tight for guys with big hands Frown
You probably have a transverse mounted V6 too, that means that if it's the plugs on the back that are bad, it's probably a PITA to do those, might even require dropping the engine--which thinking about it now, could be part of the expense.

Good to know, I'll make a note of that.

Spark plugs and coils are relatively cheap. An experienced mechanic can replace all of the coils and plugs in less than an hour. Hell I can do it in less than an hour. laugh out loud And do you HAVE to get the oil changed at the dealership. A DIY oil change is about $25.

I would have them pay for any repairs that have to do with the car being low on oil. That sensor should have come on if the oil was low. My warranty just ran out on my 09 Honda, but I think I saw where you said you had the extended warranty. I hope you can take advantage of it and the faulty sensor.

I didn't think about this. I can't remember what the engine bay looks like off hand, but you may be right.

Regarding the oil change, she said on the phone that "they went ahead and did the oil change since it was so low on oil" - meaning I didn't really have a choice on that one. Frown

I'd fight them on that one. Did you askthem to do an oil change?

No I didn't. Maybe she said it was really low on oil, and then she asked if I wanted to do the oil change? God I don't know, I hate this. She said so much on the phone, I was hearing so many things, I don't know what I agreed to. Mad

It was a misfiring cylinder. I have an extended warranty. My car had misfiring cylinders a few years ago. I went to Honda because of the warranty Down

Sorry I wasn't here to advise you sooner. Thank goodness for F1, though. My router and modem decided to start arguing with each other this afternoon, and I'm using my iPhone for internet access right now. Annoyed
