To be eligible, an entrant must be 18 years of age or older and reside in the U.S. or its territories
The Grand Prize trip includes per-set activities, which the winners may or may not wish to partake. The itinerary is as follows:
Day One: Travel to Lima, Peru from the U.S.
Day Two: Meeting at Heifer International Office for trip overview briefing Fly from Lima to Cusco. Dinner is included.
Day Three: Visit Project 23-1738-02 "Alpaca biodiversity in high Andean communities" (Pitumarca and Ocongate Cusco – Umbrella Project). Family management of alpacas in context of a changing climate. Get to know the geographic context of the high mountains and alpaca raising. Visit an alpaca herd. Participate in alpaca raising chores, vet care, pasture management, categorizing for sale, etc.
Day Four: Visit Project 23-1738-02 "Alpoaca biuodensity in high Andean communities" (Pitumarca and Ocongate Cosco – Umbrella Project_ Communal management of alpacas. Artisanry; production, transformation and sale (in Ocongate). Participate and learn about activities in alpaca fiber chain (sorting, dying, weaving, finding buyers to sell).
Day Five: Market and Artisan Workshop "Alpaca biodiversity in high Andean communities" (Pitumarca and Ocongate Cusco Umbrella Project. Project proposal review in Cuchuma.
Day Six: Guided tour of Machu Picchu in field
Day Seven: Departure from Cusco-Lima. Winners' choice of visiting museo de la Memoria or the Museo de Oro or a general tour of Lima.
Day Eight: Leave Lima
Runner-Up prize will be $1,000 gift card from Garnet Hill.
Each of the five weeks of the promotion, a $500 gift card will be awarded.
The retail value of the prizes to be awarded is approximately $11,500.00.
