Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

thanks for the heads up. I'm still on F1 news break but i just may have to go read about the fire.
Martin said he paid a "symbolic" fee of significantly more than 50,000 euros ($67,000) to clear out the HRT base. He had to return the engines and gearboxes to their makers so the cars aren't ready to race.
One of the 50 e-mails the company has received is from Hinwil, Switzerland-based Sauber Formula One team, which is interested in a refuelling-rig part, Martin added.

Still waiting for USGP ticket announcements, rumors about price increases are already all over the web, along with disgruntled tour operators who got gouged by local hotels. The local hotels really did themselves a disservice - I don't know if it was related to room blocking for F1, but prices dropped significantly in the weeks before the race when they finally realized not every F1 is made of gold

I was thinking the jw marriott might be open by 2014, but I just checked and it says opening early 2015
They haven't even started on the fairmont yet, so that's likely no earlier than 2015, too.
The community impact newspaper had a great article on Austin hotels coming online, they're expecting to add more than 3,000 rooms to downtown in the next few years (granted, 1,000 of that is the marriot and another 1,000 is the fairmont) but it should definitely moderate hotel prices in the future for big events like F1.
There's even rumors the hotel to be attached to my building are back on track, they are again saying construction starting this summer (we've heard that before, though).

March is a busy month, F1, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones all start up again.

Austin announces 2013 ticket prices and they go on sale on March 21st I don't know what to do.
I really liked my seats last year, at turn 9. Those seats have gone up to $349 from $299. Turn 12 is up to $499 regardless of the row (they used to have a difference around row 15). There are some vague comments about premium seats (in the PSL areas, I guess) being available for $500 to $1000... so parts of turn 15 might be the same as turn 12?
NBC is doing a pre-race show that starts 30 minutes before each race. For some reason, Tivo won't let you do a season pass for the pre-race so if you Tivo you'll need to find the show and record each one separately. Hopefully they'll fix this at some point.
