Formula One 2013 *possible spoilers in thread*

Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

I bought F1 2010, but just never got into it. the driving is either far to automated or far to complicated, there's no inbetween where you feel like you're in control and you're competitive. I expected a fair bit from codemasters, because I really do enjoy the dirt series, and I wanted something that could be fun without trying to be overly technical like gran turismo is. Dontknow

maybe 2013 is better, but I kind of doubt it.

Some interesting speculation about Vettel's car. Be sure to watch the first video.

Also, some very sad news about Maria De Vilotta, the test driver who crashed last year.

Quote :
Former Marussia test driver Maria de Villota has been found dead in a Spanish hotel room.

De Villota, who was just 33 years old, was already dead by the time the emergency services arrived at the hotel in Seville. Initial reports claim there was no sign of violence.

Spanish police have confirmed her death, and say it appears she died of natural causes, with newspaper El Mundo claiming she suffered a cardiac arrest. 'We are assuming it was a natural death, but we cannot confirm anything,' a police spokeswoman said.

interesting news in the world of F1 this week, for sure nod sad to hear about de Villota.

report today on the mass shake up in technical staff almost seems like a ploy where they all agreed to switch jobs and make more money as the turbo era kicks off. It will be interesting to see Honda at least have an engine back in the F1 mix in 2015.

Was also very happy to see Weber win the pole, although I would have loved for Grosjean to have snuck away with it.

Weber is apparently given credit to Vettel's KERS troubles for his pole... anybody see a way that Vettel doesn't win? Sadwalk

This Vettel always winning races is making racing boring to watch. I am annoyed that RedBull keeps on screwing over Mark Webber. How does he have to go on a 3 stop when most others are on 2 stop. I think Webber would have stayed ahead of Vettel if on both stops and if Vettel overtook Webber quickly on the same strategy, it would be due to the Kers "traction control" that RB is using in only Vettel's car. Bunch of cheats there in RB. And I thought Mclaren were the biggest cheats.

if you're not cheating you're not trying, or so they say Whee

if it wasn't for RB, this would be a nice and competitive season between Lotus, Mercedes and Ferrari, maybe Dontknow

BRISBANE, Australia - Sean Edwards, a promising British driver and the son of former Formula One driver Guy Edwards, died Tuesday in a crash during training. He was 26.

Edwards, the Supercup Championship leader, was in the passenger seat as an instructor for a private training session at Queensland Raceway at Willowbank, outside Brisbane, Porsche Motorsport said.

A 20-year-old local driver was behind the wheel when the car crashed into a tire wall and caught fire. The driver was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in a critical condition with severe burns and broken bones.

Sean Edwards was recently involved in director Ron Howard's movie "Rush" about the 1976 Formula One season. Guy Edwards was one of the drivers who helped pull Niki Lauda from his burning car during the 1976 German Grand Prix.

Toro Rosso sign Russian rookie Kvyat for 2014

Toro Rosso have announced that up-and-coming Russian driver Daniil Kvyat will race for the team next season, replacing Daniel Ricciardo who moves to Red Bull. Kvyat, a product of the Red Bull Junior Driver Programme, will partner Jean-Eric Vergne at the Italian squad.

This year, the Rome-based 19-year old has been competing in GP3 and the European Formula Three championship and he tested for Toro Rosso at the Silverstone young driver session in July.

"This is fantastic news, a dream come true and I want to thank Red Bull and Toro Rosso for giving me this priceless opportunity," said Kvyat. "Ever since I began karting, I wanted to get to Formula One and now that wish will become reality next season.

I thought Vettel actually seemed more relatable in this win than he does normally, it's sad that F1 makes it so hard to see any emotion at all out of the drivers.

early forecast for the USGP is out, 63/rain on Friday, 66 and sunny on Saturday, 65 and clouds on Sunday. Lows around 45 all three days. Last year, it was below 40 when the first friday practice started, they had a heck of a time getting any heat at all into the hard tires. Rain on Friday might be okay, it may convince me to go to class on Friday instead of skipping Wink

Also, they finally released the transportation plan for this year's event. the busses are leaving from the convention center instead of near UT (there's a saturday night football game the same weekend). On the positive side, it's at most a six block walk from my house, vs. last year where it was a five block walk to a shuttle, a ride around downtown, followed by another three block walk onto the shuttle to the track). They are charging $5 per day to the track, though, last year it was included in the ticket price. They also expect fewer busses overall this year. Last year they just couldn't load the things fast enough after the initial surge, with their winding queue system, as fast as people could walk through it was only enough to load one bus at a time. I don't plan on rushing back this year, they are letting fans on the track after the race (from turn 15 to turn 1), and they have Pitbull playing a concert at the amphitheater after the race, who I kind of enjoy, and should also be better than just standing in line waiting for a bus.

Lotus and Kimmi have kissed and made up, well at least enough to finish out the season.

Oh yeah, I heard the other day that he's going to miss the rest of the season as he's having back surgery. Wasn't at my computer at the time and forgot to post it later.
