Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

what I am curious about, is at the grand am race I spent some time in turn 15, section 8. they had this weird couple of rows with only one seat. Edge of the bleachers on side, aisle on the other. I bet those aren't held by PSL owners and have lower demand... if I could get one of those four or five seats on March 21st, I might just buy that at $500 and if anybody decides to join me that weekend later, they can get their own seats

The rest of the buzz around the track and the event has been really positive:

I don't see a drop off happening this year, especially if the hotels are priced correctly.
Too bad the qualifying was rained out. The cars seem to be just slightly better looking than last years broken nose look. Others still haven't made it to their carbon-fiber surgeons for repairs.
Couldn't tell how fast the cars were except that STR seems to have picked up some pace and now might be more ahead of the mid pack than before.

good race. I'll wait for ZM to change the title to say anything else, or until tomorrow, if ZM is lazy
Vague race opinion : no spoilers
The winner(s) drover a good race and shows (s)he's still got tons of talent. Was surprised that the 4th place driver was ahead of the 2nd place driver for so long but as usual the team aka (red, or soft drink or silver pointy team or silver/grey from UK or Black and gold) found a way to change up the pit stop(s) to get the other driver ahead. None the less still a good drive by the top 6 drivers all with different pit stops.
I still hate the interviews on the podium but it is what it is these days with instant news and crap.
I'm going to say that the Mercedes team looks good in the wet setup and you know Malaysia always has "weather" so it'll be interesting to see if Lewis or Britney can pull out a win next week.
Oh lastly, loved seeing Sutil back in the car and how Sky reported that Sutil and Hambone are no longer besties but frenemies now thanks to the bar fight in China few years back. LOL
I think this will be like last year, the first three or four races will be crazy - weather, heat, teams getting used to the tires. After that things will settle down some. Although if Lotus and Mercedes can maintain the pace, it could be a four or five way fight instead of a two or three way fight.
I do hope they get more driver interviews on the grid before the race, it didn't feel like Will had much camera time before the race in Australia. Having watched the Sky Sports coverage exactly once, I rather liked the "we'll follow martin Brundel and we'll get what we get" model. Or at least more give and take between the studio and Will would be good

p.s. Circuit of the Americas sent me an invite for a pre-sale for USGP tickets... all of two hours before the regular general public sale, tomorrow I'm still not sure what I want to do about the 2013 race
