Formula One 2013 *possible spoilers in thread*

Things are off to a rocky start in testing. Ferrari's car caught fire and there are some gear box issues, while Hamilton's car had brake failure, causing a minor crash into the barrier, he wasn't hurt though.

And some really sad news today, David Coulthard's 35 year old sister has died at home of what appears to be a heart attack.

Maybe if the tickets don't sell well, they'll drop the price? Dontknow
shake head I really doubt it, given the increase they are showing in some areas, they must feel pretty confident about demand Scratchchin

what I am curious about, is at the grand am race I spent some time in turn 15, section 8. they had this weird couple of rows with only one seat. Edge of the bleachers on side, aisle on the other. I bet those aren't held by PSL owners and have lower demand... if I could get one of those four or five seats on March 21st, I might just buy that at $500 and if anybody decides to join me that weekend later, they can get their own seats nod

My guess would be that they raised the prices based on last years attendance. However there are probably a lot of people who went last year as a one time thing, so sales this year might not be as robust as last. Of course it's a gamble on losing the seats you want by waiting to see if there will be a price drop.

The only negative people seem to be really hung up on is the hotel prices. I think / hope the hotels will be more modest this year. It was not uncommon to hear of hotels dropping rates to below $300/night in the weeks before the race as they still had rooms left.

The rest of the buzz around the track and the event has been really positive:

I don't see a drop off happening this year, especially if the hotels are priced correctly.

Probably b/c speed is going to change to Fox Sports 1 (espn wanna be).

Too bad the qualifying was rained out. The cars seem to be just slightly better looking than last years broken nose look. Others still haven't made it to their carbon-fiber surgeons for repairs.

Couldn't tell how fast the cars were except that STR seems to have picked up some pace and now might be more ahead of the mid pack than before.

Marussia has definitely picked up pace, it's looking like they'll out pace caterham this year, which they really didn't do last year.

I agree for the race was more exciting than I was expecting although I had a hard time keeping track of the pit strategy since they kept on chaning and I didn't have race timing set up today.

Vague race opinion : no spoilers
The winner(s) drover a good race and shows (s)he's still got tons of talent. Was surprised that the 4th place driver was ahead of the 2nd place driver for so long but as usual the team aka (red, or soft drink or silver pointy team or silver/grey from UK or Black and gold) found a way to change up the pit stop(s) to get the other driver ahead. None the less still a good drive by the top 6 drivers all with different pit stops.
I still hate the interviews on the podium but it is what it is these days with instant news and crap.
I'm going to say that the Mercedes team looks good in the wet setup and you know Malaysia always has "weather" so it'll be interesting to see if Lewis or Britney can pull out a win next week.

Oh lastly, loved seeing Sutil back in the car and how Sky reported that Sutil and Hambone are no longer besties but frenemies now thanks to the bar fight in China few years back. LOL

Yeah, the coverage of Kimi taking the lead was really spotty. I also felt like the world feed had new crew, too - multiple times graphics came up wrong - the lineup showing 24 spots with 22 names, incorrect comparisons for mid-field battles, and I feel like we saw a lot less of on board telemetry (DRS, KERS, etc) than usual. Even the pit stop views were bad, did they have fewer cameramen on foot in the pits?

I think this will be like last year, the first three or four races will be crazy - weather, heat, teams getting used to the tires. After that things will settle down some. Although if Lotus and Mercedes can maintain the pace, it could be a four or five way fight instead of a two or three way fight.

having watched all the way to the end, I have to say I really like the F1 extra post race coverage NBCS is doing nod I really like getting the driver comments right after the race instead of having to wait until the next race weekend like Speed did. It was pretty good analysis, and I think they'll get better as they settle into the new production and have more things to talk about as the season progresses nod

I do hope they get more driver interviews on the grid before the race, it didn't feel like Will had much camera time before the race in Australia. Having watched the Sky Sports coverage exactly once, I rather liked the "we'll follow martin Brundel and we'll get what we get" model. Or at least more give and take between the studio and Will would be good nod

They mentioned during the first practice coverage that the new telemetry systems were having issues and this was causing issues with them being able to have the on screen display.
