APC Battery Backup makes loud high pitched noise all of a sudden

This has happened multiple times. I'm watching TV and all of a sudden the APC unit will make this constant, loud, high-pitched noise. Nothing turns off as if the unit failed or something but the noise is unbearable. I turn off my TV and HTPC and then turn off the APC unit for about a minute, turn it back on, and the noise is gone. It isn't really that frequent but has happened at least three times. What is the issue?

On my APCs (350VA or less) the load test is done a few seconds after turn-on and every several hours thereafter. The test load is less than 1/2 amp and 10 seconds, which I suspect is too little or too brief to check the battery adequately because I've had old batteries pass that test but last only 30 seconds during blackouts.
Try measuring the battery outside the backup unit, while the AC power cord is unplugged (IMPORTANT) and the battery disconnected. Briefly apply a load of approximately 10 ohms (12V car tail light battery works) while measuring voltage. If it goes way below 12V, like 10V, one of the 6 cells is probably bad, meaning the battery has to be replace.

Is that a brand or something?

"Your APC Back-UPS 450 (be450g) comes standard with a 3 years repair or replace factory warranty. The warranty is effective from the date of purchase. In the event that you are not able to locate a dated proof of purchase receipt, your warranty is effective from the product's manufacture date. Your product was manufactured on October 7, 2010."
So I'm good until at least October 2013. Will they replace it if it's just the battery or is the battery part of the warranty? Once I got to that warranty info there was nothing else to do except a link that said "back". How do I apply for a warranty?
