Retired: Marlboro Outwit the West Funny Farm

Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

I would never pay $2 for a single plant, ever ! Most of those are bigger than what can be had in the 4 or 6 paks for under $3 and don't produce as well. JMO I usually get my plants at a local hardware store or local greenhouse or start them from seed
I only have 15 feet x 30 feet in the back for anything, including grass. So, think a 4 1/2 ft by 15 ft bed and a couple of smaller ones-with only the large one with more than 3 hours of sun. Since I rec'd cucumber seeds last year from one of the giveaways, I have started them inside. I actually found a sweet banana pepper pack with 2 plants, so I spent $6+tax for 4 plants and used part of the Home Depot GC that I won from the Ceasar/Harrah's IWG last year. The 4-6 pack costs more at the greenhouses/hardware/big box store, since I won the GC, I'm not out of pocket. Mom has deer (lots) and doesn't want to deal with growing veggies anymore, between her neighbors and me, she didn't buy tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, or zucchini last year. My other family members don't do veggie gardens now and only one of my friends does, she did take some cucumber plants from me last year (I found a single pack with 8 plants), Last year, the cheapest that I could find was 3/$10, so I'm $4 ahead.
Now, if the cat doesn't get the mini-greenhouse open and eat the cucumber seedlings.......

Many of the small, local greenhouses have gone out of business the last few years. The farmer's markets in the suburbs want $3-$4 a plant for common ones. You are lucky!

Good afternoon FF!! Time to check in!! I guess I should have kept my mouth shut about winning a snow blower at the beginning of spring!! Might have to uncrate that bad boy over the next couple of days! Came home yesterday from a rehab session to a huge box sitting in our garage. It was the Yukon cold locker from Igloo. Evidently Fedex didn't want to leave it by the front door ($300 value). This thing is built like a tank!! Got a good laugh when my wife attempted to haul it into the house!! It weighs like a tank, too! Had a good mail day today. Got the darts from Marlboro, the travel mug from L&M, coupon for free Reeses, samples of fish oil supplements from Nordic naturals, and a $25 Walmart gift card bought with the Camel win. This is the most action I've seen in a while! Has anyone seen my lighter on the shelves yet? I haven't seen it anywhere yet. Let me know if ya see one!! Well that's all I have to report! Best of luck to you all!! Big wins for everyone!! Peace

It's hard to get away from bald spots when you have a dog(s) I got some seed from a friend whos dad worked for a golf course. Don't know what it was but it was the stuff they use on the putting greens. It was a thin blade and stayed reasonably short. Of course my dog killed it all anyway... so I just buy bulk seed at the local hardware store and try to keep up with the bald spots nod You could always plant clover.... that stays low, always green, and tolerates doggie pee .... and you never have to mow laugh out loud
you can easily change the ph of the dog pee with several different products that are pet safe.. anything from plain ole Tums to treats that contain Yucca schidigera..also if ya fertilize..keep in mind.. pee is nitrogen..he is refertilizin for ya nod .. mostly.. cuz he loves ya Biggrin2 and I think I read where rye is one of the most pee tolerant seeds.. but.. I could be lyin..

That was fast! The ants will start coming in soon, so it's nice to be prepared.
Crossing my fingers that they don't come this year. Since my Neighbor across the street moved and the peonies are gone, I haven't had the ants trying to come in.

Sprokitz, I was bad...........
Home Depot advertised vegetables and herbs at 5 for $10 or $2 ea. I bought a couple of tomatoes (one dark red (no purple this year, but supposed to be sweet) and one old fashioned-both the little ones) and 2 ea sweet banana peppers. I know that we can have snow through Mother's Day, but I'll try covering them. It's 72 outside, still none of the rain that was promised this week, so I watered well too,

Good Luck to all!
My home depot does not take that good care at this time of year. they leave them out and it gets too cold at night.

My strawberries were delivered today. Have to plant asap. Do they spread a lot? I have a strawberry container it came with but they said take the shoots out and put them into the ground. I had not counted on doing that. I think I have to get more pots and dirt. I don't know if you know about strawberries. You know about most plants.
