Hi all,
I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.
Everyone is welcome!
I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.
This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.
So, I hope it catches on !
So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

It's been years since I read about cat foods, but I seem to recall reading that Fancy Feast and Meow Mix were two of the hardest foods to get cats to stop eating, because of an additive that makes them addicted. That might explain why the stray now turns his nose up at Friskies. I know that my friend's cat ate Fancy Feast, exclusively and got very ill. The vet put her on one of the Hill's prescription foods and she stayed hidden in the closet; her coat was greasy down the middle. I suggested she give her another premium food and I swear the cat changed overnight. She was once again a social butterfly, giving up the closet, and her coat was no longer greasy, but shiny and fluffy.
My other cat liked only the Friskies pate' and not the shreds (or whatever they're called), so I went with those again this time. He eats without problems - 4 to 6 times a day and about 15 minutes each time. With my other cat the vet wanted him eating a can a day. Even though he was 17lbs (down from 22 lbs), I couldn't get him to eat that much. This one is 9 lbs (down from 11.5 lbs) and is eating a can in about a day and a half. So, I'd say he's doing good.
Why:
When my previous cat developed kidney disease, he also would not eat the Science Diet KD in either form. He had lifelong food allergies that would make him bleed from the bowels-fresh red blood (part of the reason that a 1 yo Persian was in a rescue situation, current cat is a "who knows mix", I adopted him because he needed someone to "work" on finding foods that he could eat-my previous cat had just died from cancer and my Vet know that I would do whatever was needed so gave me a recommendation). Friskies was a no go, but many varieties of Fancy Feast worked and he would eat them. He lived for over 2 years after that and died at 17yrs 1mo. old. I knew immediately if a food formula changed.
I was just letting you know what helped when my cat wouldn't eat the 'prescribed" foods.
Re current cat:
I give my current cat a tablespoon of Fancy Feast when I eat my meal. That's not going to destroy her diet, is better than "people food" and thrills her. I tried many of the "premium" foods with her (and won the one in a contest) and found that many made her ill. The 3 premium foods that I mentioned to you, turned her bowels black, one made HER bleed (and I thought that she could eat anything) you can imagine how terrible I felt. Yes, she became ill last fall, the vet said it was a common illness with older cats and other than being borderline diabetic, she was fine. Bloodwork is still good and there is no illness associated with the current on again/off again situation. She's been okay for weeks at a time, then ill. I've removed all houseplants and try to keep an eye out on her waking time, she's been sleeping behind me in the computer chair since this started, we don't know why this is happening. It is expensive to continue to run the bloodwork, but so far, nothing. On the plus side, everything is still good except the borderline diabetes.
When she is dehydrated, then the vet has told me that I can give her more Fancy Feast, but I've been giving the rotisserie chicken meat (and she only eats the white meat) instead. It has worked to get her eating the dry food again.
I'm glad that what worked the last time is helping this time and very sorry that you are going through this with a second cat.
Good idea. That beats putting on clothes to play Skittles.

Monday - won from the Go Green Giveaway ($49 toy); lost my coupon wallet and my cosmetic bag (filled with hundreds of dollars in gift cards), but was unaware until the next day
Tuesday - reached into my purse and realized my coupon wallet was missing; ran to Walgreens, the last place I'd shopped, and they had it for me at the register. Got home and searched for the cosmetic bag, but didn't find it. I called the store; they could't find it.
Wednesday - won a bag from Earthbound Farms giveaway and a skincare product ($33) from a Facebook wall giveaway. In the mail I received a $50 gift card to an online store (I won it a few days prior on a blog giveaway), and FedEx delivered a cat scratcher ($50) from a blog giveaway (my cats immediately started scratching on it).
Thursday - woke up to a text that I won from Birds Eye Dinner Made Easy Sweeps ($50 + 5 free product coupons). Also got a call from my vet that my cat has liver problems. Likely hepatic lipidosis, which can't be diagnosed without an ultrasound and/or a biopsy. However, if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, it's a duck - no tests necessary to determine if its a duck. This is the 2nd time around with this disease, but with a different cat. While I knew what to do, panic ensued. I'm okay now, but this is a death sentence if you leave it in the hands of traditional veterinary medicine.
Friday - won a $150 gift certificate to EuroStyleLighting.com (so psyched about this!). Also went to a grocery store I'd been to on Monday and asked if they had a lost and found. When I told the girl what I'd lost, she pointed and asked, "is that it?" All the contents inside the cosmetic bag were intact, including the gift cards. Earlier, I'd gone to the Starbucks site and reported my two registered cards as lost, so the new ones should be here soon.
I haven't entered any sweepstakes since Thursday; I will have tons to catch up on when I'm a little less frazzled. I just hope I get no bad news this week - twice in one week is enough to last awhile.
