Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

Hey Guys,
Quick question. I like to crotchet blankets. Like big holey ones. I can't follow patterns so I just make it up as I go along. My problem is I never seem to make the first chain long enough, say, for a curl up on the couch with type blanket. If anyone here makes blankets and has a ballpark number I could use when I make my chain, please let me know Smilie I thought I had a lot this time but now that i'm a couple rows in it seems to narrow. I'm using a K hook, if that matters.

I know the perfect pattern for you! It's the one I just posted- it's amazing. Soooooo comfy.

I would do this:

chain 113, turn and in 4th chain from the hook do a double crochet [google.com] and repeat in each chain across.

Chain 3, turn and double crochet across.

Repeat for 110 rows.

Based on this [craftdesigns4you.com]pattern.

As soon as I finish the 2 black ones for the twins I am going to make a huge one like this!

Actually that looks perfect!! Thank you, I really have no skill when it comes to anything other than a simple pattern. I tried buying a book and I could do it but three rows took me a very long time becuase it wasn't just a simple one thing all the way across. I kept forgetting the sequence. So I pulled it out (yeah after all that time I took) and just started a simple crotchet blanket but it's sorta, eh, thin. That it just the pattern I was looking for!!

It's funny when my mom taught me how to knit all I could learn how to make was scarves, so I have blankets and scarves. I might as well cancel the oil guys cause i'm feeling like i'll be pretty warm all winter laugh out loud

I love that pattern! I have made 4 for my sister's twins so far - with one in progress and another one due. She drapes them over the stroller so nobody can touch them and the twins stick their fingers and toes through the holes and just squeeze it and love on it. heart When the girl was in the hospital my sister used to walk around wrapped in one of the blankets to stay warm. They called her the cutest homeless person ever. laugh out loud

can someone help me figure out how to knit an I-cord? it seems kinda complicated in the book i'm using.

Also, I want some stitch markers, right now i'm using a rubber band, is Ebay a good place to search?

I'm not a knitter, but try these videos:

Do you have a Hobby Lobby or craft shop in town? I use safety pins to mark rounds in crochet, but I only need one or two per project. I picked up a package of real stitch markers at the fabric store but haven't used them yet.

Hobby Lobby's webstore has them:

I have a knitting and craft store about 15 miles away. I have found however, that is it cheaper many times to just buy the needed knitting items on Ebay. I got some stitch markers on Ebay, since i'm working in Rounds I actually need them now, that rubber band is annoying!

I don't need any stitch holders right now, so i will hold off on buying any.

If you have a dollar tree near you, they had the nicest soft yarn for $1. It was a blend of fibers but I cant remember the exact blend, sorry. My friend knits so I grabbed a bunch for her, when she saw them she said they were normally 5 each? I attached a photo I had taken for her, but they had all different colors.

I think its this type?....

I posted two pics but only one shows, not sure why. Anyway, there were cream colors, light baby blues, ect plus some fancy ones with bits of metallic, ect. Hope that helps Smilie I am not a knitter (ADD...couldnt get me to sit still long enough to do a mitten much less anything else) but I sure appreciate the time, patience and work others have. These just looked really nice and soft to me.

I made an entire sweater out of that Patons Divine yarn (and in that raspberry color, too Big Grin). It's great stuff, but way expensive. $1/skein is great. You can make nice shawls and scarves with it, too. Will have to check at my local Dollar Tree ... Whee
