I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about.
I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.
I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.
Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

Quick question. I like to crotchet blankets. Like big holey ones. I can't follow patterns so I just make it up as I go along. My problem is I never seem to make the first chain long enough, say, for a curl up on the couch with type blanket. If anyone here makes blankets and has a ballpark number I could use when I make my chain, please let me know

I would do this:
chain 113, turn and in 4th chain from the hook do a double crochet [google.com] and repeat in each chain across.
Chain 3, turn and double crochet across.
Repeat for 110 rows.
Based on this [craftdesigns4you.com]pattern.
As soon as I finish the 2 black ones for the twins I am going to make a huge one like this!

It's funny when my mom taught me how to knit all I could learn how to make was scarves, so I have blankets and scarves. I might as well cancel the oil guys cause i'm feeling like i'll be pretty warm all winter

Do you have a Hobby Lobby or craft shop in town? I use safety pins to mark rounds in crochet, but I only need one or two per project. I picked up a package of real stitch markers at the fabric store but haven't used them yet.
Hobby Lobby's webstore has them:
