Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

hug Thank you, I am thinking about doing it after the holidays when things start to slow back down a bit. I am sure I will ned lots of help and advice as yall know I am a crapper when it comes to this stuff. Look how long it took me to finally learn to get the knit stitch.laugh out loud Maybe I can try to get myself a pair knitted for my birthday.(march) Smilie

And Thank you. I am buying more yarn tomorrow to get the one for the grandmother going.

Update on the crocheted afghan. I am about 20 hours away from having it done. Sad ain't it. It takes me almost an hour to do one row but I can get in a good rhythm (that doesn't look like it's spelled right) and it seems easy now.

no, i'm over 100 miles from Charlotte, LOL

but, i have news!

I FINISHED THE SOCKS!

that's my granny wearing those socks, because I already gave them to her! I decided that since she's over 80 and in bad health, saving presents that took that much effort and love was mean. At her age, she deserves immediate gratification!

Oh, and while i'm bragging, here is the scarf i knitted for my friend Gen, i am mailing it off tomorrow.

She is soo thrilled with them, the day after I gave them to her, one of her oldest living friends came to visit her, and it turned out her friend knows how to knit, and she thought that the socks looked great, especially since they were my first pair. She and I even discussed different stitches, and what a PITA your first socks are, LOL.

Oh, and for the person who wants to knit socks, it really does get easier once you do it. My best advice is, get a good pattern, and follow it blindly. Don't wonder why doing a certain stitch will work, just do it, and all will be explained for you on your needles in the end. I was thinking too hard about why a certain stitch was needed, etc, and I twas making the process far harder than it should be. Just find a good pattern, follow it blindly, and you will be ok.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the encouragement and help with the blankie. hug You don't know how much it meant to the dh.Crying

We did our family exchange Christmas eve and I had the blanket hid in the kids closet. Dh thought he only got jammies and a new wii game from me. I saved the blanket for Christmas morning. Dh played ho ho and after he came to bed I got up and put the blanket which was wrapped, in the Christmas stuff. One of the kids handed it over to him he waited til the kids were almost done opening gifts before he opened it. I had to stop him about halfway through the unwrapping to ask if he read the tag. On the tag I wrote that it was from me, mom and nana. He just looked at me and got all teary. He opened it and bawled. The kids and I all started crying he said you don't know how much that means it's probably the best Christmas present I've ever recieved. I gave him a hug and he wouldn't let go with his head buried in my shoulder bawling like a baby. Saying thank you thank thank you. I can't believe you did this. I didn't know you knew how to crochet. I said I didn't, that I saught advice from you gals. He said that I had best thank each of you for the help and coaching and to tell you that he wants to give yall a big hug.

I am crying again lol.

Oh, and I didn't get it finished til about noon on the 23rdEEK!

Thanks guys. Here are the pics of the blanket all finished. Dh said he isn't ready to be revealed as of yet so ...lolStick Out Tongue

I dunno if you can see it but the second pic shows the color difference in the yarns that were in the bag given to me by dh's mother.. I used up all of her yarn (figured it would mean more even though it was a different shade) Looking at the first pic I started about three or four rows right of the 3 row bigger white stripe on the left (does that make sense?) and worked all of the left side. The yarn that I had to buy matched the first couple runs of nana's blanket so I don't know if the mismatched stuff was bought by her or his mother. Crazy though, cause I bought the yarn some 10 years later than what she bought. I truely can't thank yall enough for the help and encouragement. hug

The blanket would fit a twin nicely as it just covers our queen.
