Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

You think I'll start knitting again once the baby is here? I'm going to be a SAHM if everything goes to plan.

Now I just don't seem to find enough time to knit along with other things... I need time to sit down and do nothing every now and then. Or to do something that requires less thought (knitting is still tough for me).

I'm in the process of crocheting an afghan right now. I haven't crocheted any items since I was a kid, but I just bought some yarn a few months ago and started.

I learned from my great-grandmother when I was a little girl...a long time ago. I crocheted her an afghan when she went to the nursing home. That was the first and only afghan, until now. Wish me luck.

So it seems I am "hooked". lol. Crocheting makes much more sense to me than knitting. (although I am NOT giving up on the knitting as of yet)

I have crocheted a bag and am working on another. I just have a quick question. If I am using this pattern (http://web.archive.org/web/200701...-here.html) making the large bag and it says to start row 2, do I turn over for row 2 and crochet on top of row one or do I start it on the back side of the chain? Then when I complete row 2 do I just work in circles all the way around to the length?

Thank you for any advice.hug

This is the bag I made yesterday. http://www.joann.com/static/proje...178467.pdf I used leftover yarn from the afghans. I will post a pic after dinner. Smilie
If it says "row" you turn the fabric and crochet into the back into the top of Row 1. At the end of the row you flip it again so you're back on the front.

If it says "round" or rd, you go in circles. Get a safety pin and mark the first stitch in the beginning of the round. When you crochet into the top of that stitch you've made it all the way around. The next full stitch gets the pin.

I love both of those patterns! I'm using a heavily modified pattern that's similar to the one you're using. I would suggest making the handles no more than 20 stitches long. The 70 stitch handle is going to stretch WAY too far and your bag will be hard to manage when full of canned goods.

This is my favorite bag project:

Let me know if you want the pattern for it.

You will, but maybe not right away. I do a lot of my crocheting while waiting for the boys. Waiting at the doctor, dentist, speech therapist, while they're playing in the tub, while they're in bed and I'm sitting outside the door to keep them there... laugh out loud

No better time.Smilie You can make it blankies and hats and booties. Ooh, I can imagine how adorable. heart

Knitting is still a pain for me as well. I have to put alot of thought and effort into it til I get the hang of the project unless it's just plain ol' knit or purl stitches. I did sit down the other night and pull a pretty rib stitch. I only made it about 4 or 5 inches wide by about 5 inches tall but it was good.nod I am going to try to make that cutie-patootie cupcake hat whenever I get more yarn.

does anyone know how to make a knitting pattern?

Like, I found the pattern I want to knit, but I am going to be making variations on it. ( size and colors, and extra trims, etc)
I want to record what im doing, and if it comes out good, maybe upload it to Ravelry and/or sell it on Ebay or Etsy Smilie

I know I need graph paper, but like, how do i use it?

Sure...

Starting where you've left off chain 70, but keep it loose. Attach it on the opposite side of the bag with a slip stitch, being careful not to twist the chain. (Next to impossible for me - which is why I prefer my pattern.) turn and SC into each chain stitch, turn and do 2 more rows of SC stitches into each SC on the handle. Repeat for the other handle.

At least I think that's what it says. It's not a very clear pattern. Scratchchin

Finished these. There is a little bit of pooling in the one sock, but I kinda like it. They are very snuggly warm.

Then I usually make one of these with the leftover sock yarn.

I'm sending my sister a ton of these. She's a bit of a starbucks addict.
