Knitters/Crocheters

I know that there are a few of you.
I have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm attempting some new things. I'm actually using patterns now, where before I just knitted whatever came about. Big Grin

I'm beginning to realize that I only have small needles and I'm becoming a yarn snob.

I knitted a hat for my nephew, one for myself (no patterns), a baby-carrier (no pattern), and now I'm going to start working on some fingerless gloves.

Anyone else? Any deals on good yarn, needles, etc.?

I don't know how to knit, but here are some videos that might help:

I finished hat #3! I need to take a picture of it - I used a different pattern and it's very cute. Just started on a string bag - here's a link for the finished product: http://www.crochetville.org/forum...hp?t=62291

I have a vegan friend who is going to LOVE these when I give her a bunch of them for Christmas.

Hiya. hug

I get to choose colors?

And more importantly, will it have a big puffy ball on the end?

Ok. I am seriously about to throw this stuff in the garbage. Frown

I am still getting the loose loops at the ends. I don't know if it is the way I am winding the first stitch around or what. Can anyone maybe explain what I need to do for the end right hand begin lefthand stitch. When I am making the garter stitch (I think, the one with the needle on the bottom) and the thread is on back and I have two/kindof a v with my ball string coming off the back where/what/ how do I place my ball string to make the begining/first loop.
Hmm I am kinda confused with what you posted... are you switching the yarn around to the back? With a garter stitch, you should just be knitting... And it sort of turns out like this:

Is that what yours looks like?

If so, you shouldn't be making any "extra" loops, you should just be knitting the ones that are there. Have you been counting your stitches? Do you have the same amount of stitches that you started with?

When you flip your knitting over you should put the yarn in the back and just keep right on knitting.

Also how do I do the same for the begining on the purl (the one with the needle on top)? I am sorry if I am making no sense. I am just getting really frustrated and discouraged. I have the middle stitches down pretty well once I start going now, it's just giving me fits on the ends. My book doesn't have a thing to say about what I need to do and I can't find a vid of the actual process. (none of yall wouldn't be willing to make me a 30 second demo would you?) lol
Show me the pattern that you're knitting and I'll give it a try (I have some extra yarn and I can do it on my size 8 DPNS... I don't have tons of DPNs yet)... and see if I can get my friend to take a video or something... or borrow my inlaws video camera.

I am a see and try visual hands on type not a read and try and figure it out. I am sorry for being an idiot. Frown Thanks:hugs:
And no, you totally aren't an idiot. Right now I am so frustrated with two projects... one being the short row on the heels of my socks. I have messed it up so many times and now I have a bunch of dropped stitches and I'm ready to tear out the whole sock and start over again. And then that blanket that I have pictured up there... I have a bit more of it done but that's a whole other story. I'm about ready to throw that out the window too! laugh out loud

Ok, so I bought some Berroco Suede off of a girl on Ravelry and HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!! She told me she stuck a little something extra in with it. CHECK THIS OUT!

She GAVE me Blue Moon Socks that Rock in Cracked Canyon, Fearless Fibers 100% Superwashed Merino in Midnight Blue, and 3 books to get me started.

She also wrote a card to me!

There's more pictures on my Flickr if you want to look at them.... about halfway down the page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/passionategray81

If a big puffy ball is desired then certainly. Just remember to show it to Drio so he can be appropriately jealous.

Hmmmmm..there are two ways one could take that, one of them is not pleasant to me and the other one would be considered a war crime.

But as long as you are making them I would take one for the team.

I FOUND MY ANSWER! I FOUND MY ANSWER!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!Crazylaugh

I was on the verge of tears so many times it wasn't funny. My dh would stop and calm me and try to offer help where he could. I resorted last night to undoing the 10 or so inches(fourth try of more than a few inches)and started over just going to purl the entire thing and not have any change (since I could purl and not have the crazy loops)

I didn't get anything done today with the knitting so I decided to paruse the shelves at wally's and buy some inspiration yarn. (My 4yo wanted me to buy him yellow yarn so I could make him a hat shake head poor baby has no clue what mommy has been through) I was just searching the net looking at patterns and trying to decipher the terms and went to look up what they meant and checked knittinghelp.com. From PG's recommendations. I was skimming through and noticed the vast selection of vids and started watching them all from the begining and about an hour into them

I skipped to look at the pics and what do I see..."Loose side stitches/Messy edges

Watch the above Demo of a small project, for tips on how to deal with this common problem. "

VOILA!!! Hey, that sounds like my mess there... says watch above video. I do and it all seems so simple... I kinda feel bad for asking yall for so much help but I am glad I have a few people that I can chat with re my new hobby.

Thank you to you all (Esp, PG) for the advice and kind words I REALLY appreciate it!hug

Now I am off to finish that scarf and make my ds a yellow hat.

I finished a hat last night but can't find my tapestry needle. Ugh. So it's still on the knitting needles. I know I put that needle somewhere "safe" so the cats wouldn't play with it and now I can't find it. Ugh.

PS. I'll post a pic when I get it cast off. And it's not for Drio.
