OFFICIAL Redbox Free Rental Codes for new/existing customers, post other codes here too
What is redbox?
Redbox are those big red boxy things at many grocery stores these days where you can rent DVD's. Works better than Netflix for me because I don't watch movies often and it is MUCH cheaper than renting a movie from a Blockbuster store. Try it out. DVD's rented from Redbox can be returned to ANY Redbox location. It's $1 per night per rental. New nights start at either 7:00pm or 9:00pm, it has been extended in some areas, it will say the due back time when you check out.
Some advice:
Check the disc to make sure it's not scratched badly before you leave, if it is just rent another copy, then return the first, call customer service and they will credit you without a problem.
As far as I know coupon codes don't work if you rent the DVDs online then pick it up in the store.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN RENTING:
1. All RENTALS/RESERVATIONS ARE DUE THE NEXT DAY BY 9PM your local time - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
2. For online "Reservations"/Rentals: (Don't get confused by Redbox's poor wording). It's not a reservation IT'S A RENTAL just like if you did it at the Kiosk!!
If you rent today (online or @ a Kiosk), your rental is due next day 9PM NO EXCEPTIONS - even if you did not pick up the movie/game the day that you rented.
Eg: You rent a movie/game on July 4th, your rental is due on July 5th 9PM
Even if you picked up the movie/game on July 5th 8pm, it is still due by July 5th 9pm
This is because, the day you rented the movie/game, the disc is taken out of circulation.
Thus it is your "reservation"/rental and nobody else is able to rent that movie/game till it is returned by you.
If you do not pick up the movie/game by July 5th 9pm, the reservation is complete and the disc is released back into circulation, this can take up to several hours to complete (depending on how slow Redbox is running but rest assured if you do not pick up your movie, it will be auto-returned on time in their system and you will NOT be charged any additional days.
You will still be charged for the ORIGINAL days rental since you had reserved/rented the movie/game and they took it out of circulation for you.
3. To max your rental period - rent the movie/game in the morning
You will have the full day and the next till 9pm to return it
=Codes can vary from $0.50cents off up to $2.00 off of a Blu-ray typical codes sayR1G1 Free but actually work on a single DVD, Blu-ray, or Game rental taking $1.50 off of DVD (free), Blu-rays, or Games. EDIT: This bug was corrected in their system in 2016.
Blu-ray codes $2.00 off are much rarer.
=If you have multiple codes, or a Universal Generic Code then do multiple single movie check out transactions; as you can only apply one code at a time (codes won't stack they will use the last code entered).
=You can use rebate cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) as long as you have at least a $1.50 DVD $2.00 Bluray $3.00 Game + Tax as balance[B] - Amex Rebate cards do not work (such as the kind 4myrebates / Tiger Direct Issues).
=Some machines allow DVD or Blu-ray movie purchases for $5/6 + tax (prices may vary). Rented Movies/Games can be returned to ANY Redbox, not just the one you got it from. EDIT: In mid 2016 REDBOX began VARIABLE pricing. Currently prices can be as low as $2.99 or as high as $16.99 ??

HOW TO RENT/USE A CODE (KIOSK or ONLINE)
@ KIOSK:
1. Select the movie(s) you want. Touch "add to cart". The price will come up as $1.50 for DVD, $2.00 Blu-ray in most locations prices do vary based on location
2. To use a promo code, Touch "Use Promo Code" along the bottom may just say "Promo Code" and enter a valid promo code with the keyboard that appears.
Only one promo code maybe used at a time so if you want to use more than one do multiple transactions.
3. Touch "Check out" and you will be prompted to slide your credit card through.
4. Enter in your e-mail when prompted or touch "no thanks". (free codes may come as well as your receipt)
5. Enter in your zip code that appears on your credit card's statement.
****REMEMBER****:
You have until 9pm the next day to return your movie for no additional charge. Additional days are charged if you don't return your movie each day by 9PM. After 25 days ($24 with code) for DVD, the movie is considered yours to keep. - NEEDS TO BE UPDATED WITH CURRENT COSTS FOR NOT RETURNING OR LOSING DVD, BLU-RAY, GAME
ONLINE:
Reserving/renting a movie online: Means that you have rented it that day & it's due back by 9:00Pm the next day whether you pick it up that day, the next day, or not at all (a movie/game not picked up will be auto returned at 9:00PM the following day with no additional charges. - Once you reserve/RENT a movie/game online it's the same as renting it at the kiosk there are no refunds or credits unless there is something wrong with the discs. Ignore the sometimes/often times confusing language from Redbox and follow this golden rule:
Whatever day you rent or reserve the movie is DAY1 (doesn't matter what time between 12:01AM & 11:59PM. Your movie is ALWAYS due back by 9PM on DAY2.
1. To rent online create an account @ Redbox.com & enter your CC information.
2. Browse/Select your movie/game, then select the location in stock that has your movie/game and add it to your cart
3. At the bottom of that CC column is a "Use a promo code" option, click it and enter your valid online promo code. * WARNING * don't try more than 1 possibly bad code you found in the thread or your account may be (TCL'd) see warning near top of WIKI
*You must enter the promo code before submitting the payment and make sure it applies by seeing the price total drop accordingly.
4. At the cart you enter your payment CC information if you have not already done so in step one.
NOTE: Even if you used a code that makes your movie or game free there will still be a PENDING or HOLDING charge made to your account so Redbox can verify that the card is valid and is able to charge you, should you not return your movie by 9PM on DAY 2.

I didn't get my free monthly promo code texted to me until the nighttime, so I didn't have a chance to use it. What should I do?
Redboxalways USUALLY sends out the free promo code texts between 8 am and 10 am, local time (based on the area code of your cell phone). If your promo code comes later than that, it might be an issue with your phone. Please call your mobile provider to find out what's going on.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN RENTING:
1. All RENTALS/RESERVATIONS ARE DUE THE NEXT DAY BY 9PM your local time - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
2. For online "Reservations"/Rentals: (Don't get confused by Redbox's poor wording). It's not a reservation IT'S A RENTAL just like if you did it at the Kiosk!!
If you rent today (online or @ a Kiosk), your rental is due next day 9PM NO EXCEPTIONS - even if you did not pick up the movie/game the day that you rented.
Eg: You rent a movie/game on July 4th, your rental is due on July 5th 9PM
Even if you picked up the movie/game on July 5th 8pm, it is still due by July 5th 9pm
This is because, the day you rented the movie/game, the disc is taken out of circulation.
Thus it is your "reservation"/rental and nobody else is able to rent that movie/game till it is returned by you.
If you do not pick up the movie/game by July 5th 9pm, the reservation is complete and the disc is released back into circulation, this can take up to several hours to complete (depending on how slow Redbox is running but rest assured if you do not pick up your movie, it will be auto-returned on time in their system and you will NOT be charged any additional days.
You will still be charged for the ORIGINAL days rental since you had reserved/rented the movie/game and they took it out of circulation for you.
3. To max your rental period - rent the movie/game in the morning
You will have the full day and the next till 9pm to return it
=Codes can vary from $0.50cents off up to $2.00 off of a Blu-ray typical codes say
Blu-ray codes $2.00 off are much rarer.
=If you have multiple codes, or a Universal Generic Code then do multiple single movie check out transactions; as you can only apply one code at a time (codes won't stack they will use the last code entered).
=You can use rebate cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) as long as you have at least a $1.50 DVD $2.00 Bluray $3.00 Game + Tax as balance[B] - Amex Rebate cards do not work (such as the kind 4myrebates / Tiger Direct Issues).

HOW TO RENT/USE A CODE (KIOSK or ONLINE)
@ KIOSK:
1. Select the movie(s) you want. Touch "add to cart". The price will come up as $1.50 for DVD, $2.00 Blu-ray in most locations prices do vary based on location
2. To use a promo code, Touch "Use Promo Code" along the bottom may just say "Promo Code" and enter a valid promo code with the keyboard that appears.
Only one promo code maybe used at a time so if you want to use more than one do multiple transactions.
3. Touch "Check out" and you will be prompted to slide your credit card through.
4. Enter in your e-mail when prompted or touch "no thanks". (free codes may come as well as your receipt)
5. Enter in your zip code that appears on your credit card's statement.
****REMEMBER****:
You have until 9pm the next day to return your movie for no additional charge. Additional days are charged if you don't return your movie each day by 9PM. After 25 days ($24 with code) for DVD, the movie is considered yours to keep. - NEEDS TO BE UPDATED WITH CURRENT COSTS FOR NOT RETURNING OR LOSING DVD, BLU-RAY, GAME
ONLINE:
Reserving/renting a movie online: Means that you have rented it that day & it's due back by 9:00Pm the next day whether you pick it up that day, the next day, or not at all (a movie/game not picked up will be auto returned at 9:00PM the following day with no additional charges. - Once you reserve/RENT a movie/game online it's the same as renting it at the kiosk there are no refunds or credits unless there is something wrong with the discs. Ignore the sometimes/often times confusing language from Redbox and follow this golden rule:
Whatever day you rent or reserve the movie is DAY1 (doesn't matter what time between 12:01AM & 11:59PM. Your movie is ALWAYS due back by 9PM on DAY2.
1. To rent online create an account @ Redbox.com & enter your CC information.
2. Browse/Select your movie/game, then select the location in stock that has your movie/game and add it to your cart
3. At the bottom of that CC column is a "Use a promo code" option, click it and enter your valid online promo code. * WARNING * don't try more than 1 possibly bad code you found in the thread or your account may be (TCL'd) see warning near top of WIKI
*You must enter the promo code before submitting the payment and make sure it applies by seeing the price total drop accordingly.
4. At the cart you enter your payment CC information if you have not already done so in step one.
NOTE: Even if you used a code that makes your movie or game free there will still be a PENDING or HOLDING charge made to your account so Redbox can verify that the card is valid and is able to charge you, should you not return your movie by 9PM on DAY 2.

Text codes are sent out monthly but also sometimes every other week!
After you sign up for the Movie text club they should prompt you asking whether you wish to also join the game text club by replying Y
2. Sign up for Redbox Email list
Go to redbox.com and submit your email address (at the bottom of the home page)
Email codes are sent out monthly but is not consistent - Also get codes for anniversary/birthdays
3. Set alert for "Redbox" on SlickDeals
Members post generic codes which may not have been sent to everyone
4. Bookmark this thread and check the latest posts/wiki updates for new promotions/discounts
Some promotions require sending a specific to redbox (727272) to get a unique code for movie/game rentals
Note:
1. Text/Email codes can be used for online reservation or at the kiosk

I think you maybe thinking of the CODE that expired a few years ago "REDBOX" that was supposed to be used for the first rental back when it was active but it's been sooo long I don't even remember if that was a strict rule.
I started keeping a log book & also writing with a sharpie on each rebate card which codes I used so for each card, and it never mattered what ordered I'd use BREAKROOM or the others.

It's funny because I was in to Wally World yesterday (trying to get another deal (Scott Paper Products + Vudu deal to work) and they were the only Redbox that had Identity theft in Blu-ray so I used a rebate card & used DVDNIGHT & DVDONME for a second movie, but by chance never tried BREAKROOM, maybe that's good because it might have bummed me out. As a side note, Identity Theft was a cute and had me belly laughing a few times. I enjoy when movies develop a character that I would feel like killing in real life and they make me root for them.

Thanks for the quick review of "ID Theft". I'd recommend "The Call", which stars Halle Berry and is an entertaining thriller. The girl in it is the younger sister from "Zombieland". She was a girl back in that 2009 flick but looks like a young woman in "The Call".
The next on my list is the new "Die Hard" movie, but I'll probably get that on Blu-ray to really enjoy the special effects.
