Are there any guns in your home . . . . .YMMV, FAR

. . . . . said the doctor to my bride when she had two of my kids in for their wellness visits today. What does that have to do with anything? And the doc didn't let up. My bride kept telling her that she doesn't need to answer that question; so the doc asked it multiple times throughout the visit.

I was asked that question as part of my initial "interview" at my doctors office. It was with a Nurse Practitioner who did all the initial stuff before I saw my actual doctor. It was part of a standard form she was going down and when I asked why they wanted to know she said I didn't have to answer. My doctor laughed about the question and said "This is Alaska, who doesn't have a gun?" laugh out loud

Don't you need one for all the bears?

Bears (that's what I bought my 454 Casull for), wolves, moose, people.laugh out loud You don't need a CCP in Alaska so pretty much everyone I know up there who can have a gun has one.

I heard that Walmart sells handguns in AK... any truth to that? (mainly b/c of the large calibers need to fend off the bears... plus moose are trouble too when they get stirred up)

The snopes argument has been debated before, and they have been found wrong a number of times. Let me know your address, and I'll send you round trip tickets to accompany the bride when she goes again on Friday. I understand that nothing is true unless you see it from your own eyes or comes from a liberal source. The blaze is, in fact, the devil, and reality is only what you yourself witness.

The fact that you were there with her or that you can differentiate between what you witness and what my wife witnessed?

Yup, Walmart, Fred Meyer, the PX all sell handguns there. I don't remember if the Walmart here in Nevada does also, I know they sell long guns.

Ok, thanks... always heard that "rumor".... Walmart sells rifles/shotguns in some stores and ammo in all the major calibers, but not handguns.

The whole AAFES thing is more recent though and they publish where they sell ammo/handguns. Though, the Glock's aren't as good of a deal because if you go to a LEO dealer, as AD/reserves/retired, you can buy any glock at LEO pricing which is cheaper and includes an extra magazine. The ones sold on post/base are the civilian ones IIRC.

Groceries and guns in the same place, true one stop shopping (no wait times either). When I worked at Fred Meyer my 15% discount included guns and ammo.drool

Yes and no on the civi models on post, it depends on what they have in stock (this was back in 2004-2006 when we lived on base). They will also order a gun for you or act as FFL if you are just doing a transfer. If you order a gun with no deposit after X amount of time they sell it. At Benning English Range will order whatever you want, as long as you pay. They also do (did?) a "deployment gun" where it was at cost, NO markup. The NAS here sucks and doesn't have much of anything to sell. Sadwalk

Because doctors record everything--that's the procedure.

Nobody's forced to go to the doctor.

Then why should they be forced to buy health insurance or be fined if they don't?

I'm glad you seem to be on the side of repealing Obummercare.

The best response would be to thank them for any help or care they have given in the past but that you are no longer comfortable with putting your health care in their hands and will be seeking a new doctor.

If enough people handled it in this manner maybe they would get the message to keep their noses out of what isn't their business.
This is the new normal. They did the same thing at our last doctor before we switched insurance companies.
Quote from veritablequandary :
Easier said than done if your insurance requires you to pick out a PCP. And in certain areas you might only have one or two choices. I know a couple of people who can only pick between two docs if they want to avoid paying ridiculous out-of-pocket fees for going out of network.
It won't matter for a lot of folks next year. I work for a fortune 500 company with 20k employees, and we all just received a letter stating that we need to get our wellness visits this year because they can't guarantee we will be able to see our PCP in 2014 with the new legal changes to health care. I'm guessing they will take the cheaper route and pay the fine instead of offering us health insurance as part of our compensation.

The fact that someone else verified this should indicate that I'm not. I asked the bride to snap a pic of the form she has to fill out for the other two kids when she goes in on friday. Then again, she is always lying to me. I'm guessing she's lying about this and gunnerusa and vaultaddict have caught me believing one of her horrible lies. Sometimes she calls me Ronald in an attempt to make me think my name is something other than it is. One time she brought me a rock and told me it was my son. I don't know if I can believe her any more. Maybe I should become a liberal.

I know liberals like to ask questions and have someone else do their research, but I don't fall for that shit. Do your own research. Go find me one news article (not a commentary) on the blaze that was proven wrong and not redacted by the blaze. Snopes doesn't take articles off or change articles once they've been proven wrong.

I have no idea what will happen with our health insurance where I work. Since it is a benefit negotiated by the union and part of the contract I figure we are good as is for another two years until the contract is up. At that point it will still be a part of the negotiations but to keep things as they are now I bet the cost in terms of concessions will be painful.

For the same reason that I'm forced to pay for highways I'll never use in your state.
