it doesn't? Last i checked it forced people to have it. before it existed, people didn't have to have it.
And that changes how it's paid for, not how the care is provided. Think about it overnight, you'll get the difference in the shower in the morning.

This is the plan I currently have, which is no longer being offered. I do not get health insurance through an employer.

If your employer doesn't offer health insurance, I can't see how you would be paying as much as you say in the subsidized plan, and the silver plans under the affordable health care plans are better than what you had. What state are you in?

its not ass backwards because life threatening things, such as the one you refer to, can always be handled at a hospital and in america you can't be refused treatment at a hospital due to lack of health insurance

of course you're going to pay out the ass, but that's the risk someone took in either (a) not obtaining private insurance on their own or (b) not working somewhere where health insurance was an option - which has numerous other implications, but we'll leave it at that.

Lets look at that example of getting medical attention in emergencies without refusing treatment. Once I leave the hospital I get this massive sticker shock of RETAIL MSRP stay at the hospital. No discount at all and 2x-3x what insurance negotiated rates would be and probably 4x medicare rates negotiated by the government. Then I go out and apply for tons of credit cards and rack up thousands of dollars. The next day I file bankruptcy and wipe away all my bills. Do you think this creates an effective society and all this bad debt is a good thing. Doctors have to charge more since the amount of patients that actually pay their bills is a lot lower.

Obamacare is not the right answer for the problem we have in this country. We have a sh*t ton of problems and obamacare is just a step in the right direction. Along with negotiating much lower medical cost, focusing on patient versus the revenue generation mindset the doctors are in currently and the outrageous cost of Synthetic drugs made in labs. Medical cost is a lot cheaper in Canada, Europe, India and many other countries in the world. Just look at these prices for surgery and how much it cost

http://www.surgerycenterok.com/pricing/

Now with obama care at least everyone has insurances and gets discounts on their care. They will be liable for their bill and more likely to pay it since it is based on their income. I would rather the country tax us 5% extra and just build it into the system. I never want to see another medical bill ever for any of my friends and family and I will gladly pay 10% extra taxes over a bankruptcy.

I'm counting down! Right now I have what amounts to a catastrophic-only plan, with a $4000 deductible. I can't go to the doctor unless it's literally a life or death issue. Tomorrow I'll enroll in Obamacare, and come 1/1/14, I'll finally be able to see a doctor when I need to, for a premium that is 30% less than I'm currently paying. Not that I enjoy going to the doctor, but I like having the peace of mind that doing so won't require borrowing money from friends and family.

Better coverage for less money. Thank God...salvation is called Obamacare! woot

AZ, was trying to see what they would offer me for coverage on the exchanges so I can price stuff out.
Wow, AZ's insurance exchange website sucks compared to California's. I feel your pain.

You guys kept mentioning European model. But nobody mentions that it takes 6 months to see a specialty doctor. Nobody mentions that you have to bribe the doctor to be seen by him or you'll find out the doctor doesn't take new ppl. Yes, you can go to the hospital but you pay out of pocket for doing so.

As I said before the rich get richer and healthier while the poor....have to pay a fine

The next step is to put a stop to the hospital "non profit" game where their executives take home massive pay and they invest in expansions and equipment to soak up the cash they generate to remain "non profit."

But right, baby steps.

I am very happy for folks who are going to benefit from this plan. Your health is your wealth and ask anyone rich person. He will trade away 75% of his wealth for 25 more years in life. No one should have to live in sickness, misery or fear of going broke. This is a stupid society we live in and money money money hungry. Everything is all about the Benjamins and nothing is about the good of being a human.

For the folks in a crappy situation where your employer offers pathetic coverage and you are still able to afford it due to the threshold. I truly feel sorry and hope the new program will bring changes eventually which will either make the employer offer better coverage or become qualified to go through the exchange. I wish people could freely choose between their employer or the exchange. Not some stupid bean counter (hey now...i am a bean counter Wink ) presented to his manager a threshold that would work in favor of getting the plan through congress and due to that you are getting screwed out of a policy.

Nope, my friend had a counterstrike clan and he wanted more members without having to recruit people. Picked that name and it stuck, although I sucked at the game! Wink

First of all I speak from first hand experience when I was in middle school (Vancouver, BC) and had to go to the doctor multiple times and each time I believe the wait time to see a doctor 2-3 weeks was 3-5 weeks for specialist. Emergency room is always open in case you can't wait till appt and it is life threatening.

I have made appts here in US with doctors and my PCP is 2 weeks and my specialist are typically 3 weeks - 1 month. Specialist who are at the top of their game have appts booked out 3 months in advance. I personally think the time to see a doctor in america is at best 50% quicker than European. Even if European is 6 months as you claim which my family in toronto would laugh at that (My family in Amsterdam had no issues getting medical attention without unnecessary wait) at least you have the option to bypass insurance and pay more to see a doctor. Those doctors who charge more to see them sooner don't charge as much as american doctors who ring the register as soon as you walk through the door.

You just have to ignore the Gov trolls!! It's like 3 or 4 people, posting the same PROPAGANDA nonsense, to multiple forums!!

It's funny, how, no-one in favor of Obama-Care, want's to post about, a "free" LMAO country, forcing their citizens, to buy something!! It's always the same Communist, broken record, of how everything about it is GREAT --- until its not.

Reminds me exactly of the great Orson Wells

Heathcare.gov [healthcare.gov] is live. People in 36 states will be using it to buy health insurance. It's probably the hottest deal, ever, in the lives of several million people that currently are not insured.

Whatever your politics, it is the law, it is live, so please limit the discussion to the plans and options available. Like it or not, it's here, and if your middle class or even less well off, and don't have good insurance from your employer, it's a significant discount.

You can see if you use Healthcare.gov or a state exchange here. [healthcare.gov]

And it took about 30 seconds poking around to get an error Smilie
