2nd Annual SD Secret Santa ~ PARTNER LIST POSTED! (check OP)

*2nd Annual SlickDeals Lounge*

*How It Works*
It's Christmas time! Well, almost! Since the Secret Santa Gift Exchange went over so well last year, we're going to give it another go this holiday season. In case you don't know, this is how the Secret Santa Gift Exchange here at SD works: first, participants sign up and fill out a questionnaire. The questionnaire will be composed of questions that will help the Secret Santas buy a gift that their partner will like! When the sign up period is over, partners will be randomly drawn, and gifts will be purchased and shipped by the Secret Santas. You'll want to keep your identity a secret until all the participants have received their gifts. At the end, we will share pictures of our gifts and the partners will be revealed.

*Rules/Important Information*
1. You must have a minimum of 1,000 posts to participate.
This gift exchange is meant to be a fun way to celebrate the holiday season with the friends we have made on this board. Unfortunately, a limit does have to be set that determines who should and should not be allowed to participate. This rule is not in place to be "mean" or exclude any specific members. If you don't make the cut this year, stick around and post some more! You will get to know us and we'll get to know you, so when next year's SS rolls around you'll have even more fun participating!
2. You must not share your partner's address with anyone else.
The only two people who will ever see your full name and address will be myself and your partner. Under no circumstances are you to share that private information with any other user.
3. The spending limit for this year's Secret Santa is $20.
This is a reasonable amount to spend on a gift. Also, don't forget to factor in shipping costs!
4. When you're ready to ship your gift, make sure you buy delivery confirmation.
This will serve as proof that you actually did ship your gift to your partner!
5. You must sign up by Sunday, November 11th.
Shortly after the sign ups are closed, you will receive a PM with your partner's information.
6. You must ship your gift by Monday, December 10th.
This will allow four weeks for you to shop for and send out your gift. I will make posts several times throughout the month to remind you how many days left you have to ship. The sooner you get it out, the better!

*How to Participate*
WAIT! Before you sign up, please read this! Last year, the gift exchange went over flawlessly. Every single participant sent and received their gift - not one person flaked! It's very important that you realize once you commit to participating, you must follow through and send out your gift. The dates posted are a reasonable time frame for you to purchase and ship your present. If you need to withdraw from the exchange, please let me know as soon as possible, preferably before partners are chosen.

Now, if you understand the aforementioned information and you are ready to sign up, here's what you do:

1. PM afusinatto your full name and address.
You MUST PM me this information before I will add you to the list of participants. Be assured that your name and address will be kept private and will only be shared with your partner.
2. Make a new post in this thread with your repsonses to the questionnaire, which can be found in the wikipost.
Your partner will use your questionnaire when it comes time for him or her to shop for your gift. There will be a link to your questionnaire post in the wikipost. Feel free to edit it as you come up with new ideas!
3. Shop for a gift for your partner.
Shortly after the November 11th sign up cut-off date, you will receive a PM with the name of the person you will be shopping for. Use that person's questionnaire for ideas on what to buy him or her.
4. Ship out your partner's gift.
You have until December 10th to send out your gift. That's an entire month to find something, so no excuses! It's very important you send out by December 10th so your partner will receive it before Christmas!

4. PM afusinatto when you receive your gift.
While you are busy being somebody else's Secret Santa, remember that you will be receiving a gift from your own Secret Santa, too! When your gift arrives, PM me and let me know. You can either open your gift right away, or wait until later to do it. If you can remember, TAKE PICTURES and post them so we can all see what your Secret Santa sent you!

...we are dancing a dangerous line here crucifying one and praising another........
They represent 2 different situations, that's why one is being called out, and the other is being praised.

CCJ hasn't blown us off, or refused to provide tracking.

She could have gone the route that mom2soup chose, but, she didn't. Giving CCJ praise doesn't set a bad example, it shows that SS is willing to work with people who are willing to admit to mistakes and try to make up for them.

I have seen absolutely no effort from mom2soup to rectify her situation. Calling her out on that is appropriate and sets the example that SS won't just forget this type of behaviour. (and that's all I'll say about how SS should respond mom2soup's behaviour here.. I've already said my mind on that matter... and.. at this point, the thread is just going around and around with the same difference of opinions... so, before I start in on the "pontius pilot"ness of trying to differentiate between allowing/endorsing, I'll just agree to disagree on how it should be handled, and go with whatever the group decides..)

(Just to play devil's advocate here)

CCJ: If your person had done what you did and you watched your mail every day but never received a gift (or in this instance will receive one much past the deadline), how would you personally want it to be handled?

I'm kind of torn about CCJ. On one hand, she came back and made it right..on the other, technically she didn't follow the rules and since we are discussing making them even tighter, I'm not sure how we could include her in future exchanges in good conscience.

In all honesty, I would have been very upset UNTIL they contacted me. I guess if I was in her position, when she receives her gift it should seem pretty evident that I didn't just flake until the last second then buy something quick to cover my ass.

I put a LOT of time and thought into this, not a spur of the moment bag of candy and xmas teddy bear or something generic.

I am a big believer in giving people a second chance. I would give me a second chance, but if it is going to cause some huge debate or argument or something, for the sake of everyone being sick of drama and for the sake of Amanda's sanity, I'll just voluntarily take myself out of these gift exchanges. I didn't want a debate or argument, just was curious about how people felt.

Thank you. Respectfully worded from a participant.

I understand where you are coming from, and if it is too much of an issue, I'll just remove myself and not force people to make a decision. The last thing I want to add here is more drama. It takes away from the meaning of all of our exchanges, and I have no want to compromise this - it is a good and fun thing Smilie

Oh good Lord.

It's an online SS. ONE person (bitch mom2soup) farked up and for whatever reason decided she was not going to hold up her end of the "bargain"...so to speak.

CCJ messed up. WE ALL DO. She sent a gift. Even if it was just a 5 dollar gift...she didn't flake. She didn't ignore questions. She sent it out late. A mess up? Sure. But that's all it was.

No admins should be involved. If they are, say goodbye to SS and anything of the like in the future.

It's sad that because one person decided to back out....this thread, which was full of good things, has gone to back and forthing about whether this was all worth it and who should participate if/when we have this again.

Yay for everyone who sent out gifts. Yay for everyone who put thought into what their SS recipient would like. Boo for the one woman who completely flaked.

The end.

CCJ can be my SS anytime. People make mistakes; but they should be forgiven when they rectify them. It's not like she forgot to send a kidney to a dying child...

Not allowing her might discourage people from even trying to make right, if they ran into a problem.

In good conscience, I don't see how we could exclude someone that makes a real effort towards reconcilliation.. That would be like saying that those who do make the effort are just as bad as those who don't.

Perhaps CCJ could be on sort of a "probation" Dontknow

There is a big stinkin' difference between CCJ's actions and mom2soup's flaking out. CCJ responded appropriately and will be Smack her husband for allowing this to happen. She made the situation right in a timely manner. She wasn't giving Amanda the finger and ignoring PMs.

I seriously doubt CCJ will allow herself to be in this situation again.

All I'm saying is last time my SS was the last one to receive their gift. I felt terrible. So this year I worked my butt off to make sure my SS got theirs on time.

That being said... I am glad I was allowed to participate this year and I still feel like a jerk for what happened last time.
