Cox Modem Upgrade - Free for existing customer

It might not be a deal, just a head-up if you are existing Cox's customer.

I received a notice on screen tell me to upgrade my old modem to a new DOCSIS 3.0 (not sure which one) but it is free, no charge. Check the link below, it will definitely ask for your zipcode.

VERY YMMV

My order was canceled and I am posting a pic of it below. - XxadminxX

Attached is another image of my order which states the reason for cancellation (NON AUTHORIZED USER) - XxadminxX

Folks, i'm very sorry for giving a false hope. I just received the modem and straighten out my concerns with Cox's upper level management. The word FREE is definitely free for internet and phone subscribers, if you are INTERNET and PHONE then there is no charge whatsoever, no rental or hidden fee.

If you are internet subscribe only, like me, then they will waive the upgrading fee (God and Cox knows what it meant) but they will charge you a monthly rental fee (which is $6.xx/month).

Do not hook up the modem you receive to the internet if you are subscribed to Internet only, they will start charging when you do that, just return it to Cox's store. Free to open and explore as your will but once again don't hook-up or activate it.

For your curiosity, the modem is Netgear Wireless Cable Gateway CG3000D (can find it for about $40 on Amazon). Now i know what to spend with the staples coupon.

I'm still holding out for a super-duper DOCSIS modem and suddenly Cox just gives me early Christmas present.

BTW, i'm out of contract with Cox and i don't pay for modem's renting. Why don't you try to place an order, they may give it for free even you already have one.

This is for customers who have Cox phone service and thus have an eMTA. It's a free rental. Cox doesn't even rent modems for a fee...in my area at least.

This doesn't apply to Cox customers who don't have Cox phone service.

I do not have Cox phone service but just placed the order. On their website, it shows:

If you're no longer a Cox Digital Telephone customer, you still qualify to upgrade your Internet modem.

But notice it doesn't say "for FREE." at the end of it like the previous sentence for Cox Digital Telephone customers. And there's a "Learn More" link right after the sentence which takes you to info on upgrading your Internet-only modem.

Worth a try though! Let us know how it works out.

When I click the "Upgrade modem" icon it takes me to a page with a $6.99 per month cost.

tried again, and got the free upgrade option with the following details:

Quote :
Upgrade your Internet & Telephone Modem
To qualify for the free Internet & Telephone Modem, you must also have Cox Digital Telephone service. Of course, you can also purchase a Cox-approved DOCSIS 3 modem from a third party retailer.

Charges Included
Includes applicable monthly recurring service fees and applicable discounts. Prices do not include applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges. Excludes charges for subscribed services. Prorated charges may appear on your bill if you change services before the billing cycle is complete. Prorated charges are not presented here. Prices, and/or when applicable contracts, may differ from those presented here as a result of existing customer pricing, customer's specific service address, and/or contract related updates.
Some more info from 2008... http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r...em-Upgrade Might be for Virginia customers only with phone service there.

I am not a tech person but my Internet service through cox is 18 Mbps. When I had my old modem it was pulling in 30-35. Once they convinced me to upgrade to a 3.0 my speed dropped to 15-18.

Well I was able to order the "FREE" Modem- first got error message for address- but then tried connecting with online chat- got a CSR and she said- make sure you LOG IN to your account- once I logged on- she said- it appears all you have to do is complete the name block- she said she would wait- and then she said- looks like it worked.

I said it is FREE right? (I did not mention to her- but I do not have telephone service with Cox)- have everything else- been with Cox for 25 Years.

This is what she replied via chat-

You: So does this mean- I have a "FREE UPGRADED Docsis 3.0" Modem
You: No Charge and No Monthly Fees and Taxes?
Summer: Yes, that is right. We will be providing you the new modem 2-3 days from this day. No monthly fees, totally free.
You: Because I would hate to see a Charge for the Modem on future bills
Summer: No worries, I assure you this is totally free and with no charges at all. $0 charge.
