ABC new honor walmart price mistake?

read this http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wa...d=20804317

When asked if the company will honor items sold to customers at the mistakenly low prices, Jariwala said the company is "still working through those details."

and this http://www.turnto23.com/money/con...ite-hacked

While United Airlines recently honored some $10 tickets offered by mistake on its site, a retailer does not have to honor an error, especially if it is the result of hacking.

Hi! Welcome to SlickDeals. This guide should help you to understand what each of the separate forums are, who "lives" in each one, and how you should act when you visit them. Hopefully, after reading this thread, you'll be able to decide which of the many facets of SlickDeals appeals to you the most, and where you'd like to spend most of your time. That said, let's get started.

Hot Deals - A place to find all manner of electronics, tools, pet supplies, miniature wooden pirate ships, and (sometimes) turtles. Leave your morals and principles at the door: when you can get a $6000 HDTV for sixty-seven cents just by printing out a coupon and picking the right cashier, you'll forget about all that stuff anyway.

It's in their terms of use, etc. that they can cancel any order for any reason whatsoever. They can choose not to sell something to someone if they don't want to. It's all legal terminology, etc..

Sure. Crazy homeless people. At ours, some homeless dude went in there, cut his feet with a razor and started writing gibberish on the walls in his own blood.
That sounds pretty typical to any walmart I've been in Wink

They canceled my order. Lied to me in an email that it was because the store had no stock, as I was in the store and had spoken to an employee who checked the inventory literally a minute before I got the email. Apparently its corporate policy to lie in order to cover up mistakes.

Most companies for some reason just cannot resist the "tempatation" to lie even when they must know that the customer knows the truth.

I honestly don't get how people can get so pissed if a retailer cancels their order because of an obvious price mistake. Its clear you knew the price was a mistake, and the only reason that the retailer would honor it is to prevent customers from getting annoyed. To be honest, if they were smart but still didn't want to honor the mistakes, they could just cancel orders and give everyone a coupon for like 15% off their next order, which would at least be reasonable.
eh, I mean there are people hired at these places to ensure that this stuff doesnt happen. If people went into walmart and swapped UPCs to get a lower price and get told no I think you are right. If you leave an item up for that many hours on your website, that is your fault. Do you know how much good press they would have gotten if they came out and honored these prices ? Tons, and it would have probably been cheaper than shooting a commercial and paying for advertising.

You are right for saying people have no reason to complain, but walmart could have and should have turned this into something else instead of cancelling orders (and this is not me being upset for not getting an 1100$ tv for 350). Now they get bad press for letting this happen and upsetting customers (justified or not), instead of a happy story about people getting cheap things.

perspective I guess

However, it would be a bad precident for future errors. And, we all know there will be price mistakes in the future.

And the good will they'd get by honoring it would disappear in thirty seconds or so.

People on SD always say this.
"oh the company would have so much good publicity and goodwill if they honored the price mistake"..
But come on, this is SD.. One week later: A SDer needs to buy something.. If that same item is 1 cent cheaper elsewhere, they aren't going to remember how cool Walmart was on the price mistakes. They are going to buy it where it's the cheapest.

Not to mention, if Walmart honors this price mistake, the next price mistake will have everyone ordering 10X as much and getting even angrier when Walmart doesn't honor it again..
