LOL ohio state is garbage the National Championship should be FSU vs Auburn

31 10 December 2, 2013 at 09:56 AM in Chat
Lets be honest nobody wants to see Ohio State get crushed in the national championship after barely escaping their super easy schedule. Atleast FSU dominated their schedule they need to face a battle tested Auburn team which would be a epic game.

Will the start doing that in college?
i wouldn't think so. there's a quasi-parity setup in college football: there are only a handful of teams who have a real shot at the national championship every year, so there isn't league-wide parity, but among that handful, parity is high and competition is fierce (as the current "every game counts" reasoning proves). as long there is more than one team who believes they have a shot at the 1-seed in the tournament, there is no incentive for any of the teams to sit their starters. since college has a shorter season than the NFL, the chance for one team to excel so much as to make their playoff spot a foregone conclusion is even lower.

i think it comes down to how attached you are to the teams in that specific rivalry. the guy is obviously a huge SEC fan, and the Iron Bowl is probably the preeminent matchup in that conference, so he obviously cares a lot about it.

unfortunately, most fans don't really care all that much about the Iron Bowl. it was the afternoon game while Missouri/A&M was the highlight night game because Johnny Football pulls more viewers than Nick Saban. for all those viewers, several playoff games with a win-or-go-home result between the best teams in the country are much more exciting and entertaining overall than a handful of "traditional" rivalry games only a fraction of college football fans care about.

i'm fairly agnostic in college football with a soft spot for Nebraska, so i have no deep attachments to any traditional matchup. for me (and, i suspect, most others), the very small significance sacrificed during those rivalry games is gladly given in exchange for playoff games and a real national champion.

Why is Auburn more deserving than Missouri? Auburn got beat by LSU handily, while Missouri lost to South Carolina in overtime with South Carolina scoring on 4th and long.

Auburn then get lucky that two Georgia defenders wanted to catch an overthrown ball instead of knocking it down. Then 'Ol Nicky wouldn't kick a FG at the 13 yard line but tries a 57 yarder and doesn't cover the return. They even beat Miss St on a last second pass.

Are you serious??? Missouri/A&M may have been the highlight night game, but the Iron bowl was the game of the day. It was the second highest rated game of the year.

Number one rated game of the year was the Bama/A&M rematch, of course. I don't know(nor care enough to look), but I doubt Mizz/A&M was even the second highest rated game of the day.

*Edit:Got bored enough to look. Mizz/A&M was the distant third rated game of the day(3.6) behind Bama/Auburn(8.6) and Mich/OSU(6.4)

With a 24 and 0 record in the last 2 years the Buckeyes have earned their chance to play in the Championship game (after they get by the #1 ranked defense in the country, MSU)

Go Buckeyes!

Told ya months ago we would back in ALVS!
winning 24 in a row with a schedule that pathetic is not impressive at all .. FACT.. Thats like saying Hey man I go to this retarded community college and have a 4.0 I have a higher gpa then the guy who has a 3.6 at MIT ... If OSU had played in the pac 12 or sec or even some decent out of conference games then they can talk.. However OSU hasnt played a single top 10 team during this laughable streak

Meechigan put them at the brink of losing in a 42-41, where a decision to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking a chipshot FG by our stupid coaching staff gave away the W to Ohio. and we suck this year. Ohio's creampuff pre-conference play with 3 MAC schools and an FCS school is despicable, and the B1G is the weakest major conference in the entire country.

bad assumption on my side; thought they would schedule their highest expected ratings game at night with their most well-known announcing crew (Herbstreit/Musburger).

lol you sound a little sore.

#1 FSU schedule is weaker than Ohio States, a win is a win. I, nor the voters, care much about style points.

Ohio had a tougher schedule than FSU?! wtf you smokin'? I want some! LMAO

Ohio has played 2 ranked teams. #16 NW (1-7 in conf play), who was obviously WAY over ranked, and #23 Wisky. FSU won @ #3 Clemson 51-14, #7 Miami 41-14, rolled the #25 terps 63-0, and is playing #20 Duke for conf championship.
