Amazon closed my account

1,923 199 December 4, 2013 at 05:19 AM
So my wife account on Amazon got closed due "continued to request refunds for a significant number of your orders." Basically we had a baby and she was buying and returning stuff, but still keeping a lot of stuff. But I guess they have there reasons, anyway my account which had the same amazon visa card (sharing rewards) also got closed due to being linked to this account. I had student prime and over all loved my account and had good standings. What can I do now ? From reading around I see that they are using the billing address and/or Credit card/Bank information to link accounts, not the delivery address. This really sucks !

Same thing happened to me, I returned two items, both Amazons fault, and then I had an item on hold because I also ordered a preordered video that was holding my kids toy till after Christmas, and because I asked Amazon to change the shipping speed for the toy and they refunded me the shipping fee, I get an email two days later saying my account was closed and all open orders will be cancelled. The toy was an open order, CANCELLED. I have been with Amazon for 7 years. My older daughter just paid for a prime account too, so they better not cancel her account over this.

Yeah...what he said....babies are easy to fit.

Of course it's THAT crazy. Seriously, babies are not that hard to fit -- unless yours has 3 arms or something, there are only 3 sizes: too little, just right, and big enough to grow into.

25% return is a lot.

I've also bought hundreds of stuff from Amazon and I can probably count the items I've returned with my right hand.

25% return rate is insane. Abuse the generous return policy and this is what you get. I feel no sympathy for the op. I hope Amazon stands their ground against his bullshit ignorant loyal customer sob story.

Policies like this prevents stuff as 15% restocking fees. Amazon did absolutely nothing wrong and is just getting rid of a guy that likes to demo things out.

I agree 25 % is pretty high but they cancelled me for two returns in 7 years.

In a nutshell, this is how you can set up a new account:

A corporation is considered a separate person under the law. So step one is to form an S-Corp or LLC. They charge as little as $69 for a basic LLC. Plus you will have to pay a filing fee to your state. Some states charge a really high filing fee. Washington State it costs $200, but Nevada is only $75, so that is one option since you do not have to live in Nevada to have a corporation there.

Next you will need a new email address and a physical address. The email address is easy. For a physical address you want to just rent a box in one of those mailbox franchises that exist in almost every town. (There is another advantage of this. The mailbox place is a commercial address. When you have goods shipped to you, it is cheaper to ship to a commercial address than a residential one. This savings can easily pay for the box rental).

Once you get a commercial address, you will now need a bank account and Visa card in the name of the business. Just take your articles of incorporation to your local bank, open an account in the name of your business (your LLC name) and ask for a Visa Debit card for the account.

Now you just need to do one last thing. Amazon logs your IP address, so you will need to change that.

Now you should be ready to apply for a new account. Just one more thing; when you name your corporation or LLC, use a name different than your own. If your Amazon account was in the name of Susan Jones, don't name your LLC: Susan Jones, LLC. Your LLC doesn't have to be named after you, you can pick any name you like that isn't being used by someone else.

EDIT: oh, and something else, buy a new computer, like a dell laptop for $250 and use it to access your Amazon account. Amazon will read the computer information and so a new computer is key (some claim you can Reformat your hard drive or restore it to pre-Amazon days. Amazon plants permanent cookies on your drive that even a new IP will not cover-up.)

Because whether it was you or your wife who abused it, they know the abuser will simply gravitate over to your account. Is that a fair assumption? I assume if your account was still active, your wife would already be ordering 50 more items she is iffy on keeping.

This is like saying "if my drivers licence gets suspended they should suspend my wifes as well" if she would get her account closed, i would not let her do same on my for pretty obvious reasons, simply I would be even more careful in placing orders and selection. Anyway thanks for feedback guys.

I really think in your case Amazon did right. Amazon has an incredibly small profit margin, way smaller than most businesses out there. They have been banning people for excessive returns for many, many years. Most SDers know not to push their luck. There is a huge thread here on SD created when they had that huge wave of banning where people compared rates of return. Some with less than a 2% return rate got banned. Some got banned for using a friend's address to buy/ship a book from amazon UK (where it may be cheaper, or available). Some got banned because they had a friend on their prime account who was an amazon seller who got an item returned by an angry buyer. Some got banned for buying too many items that they had shipped to an address other than their own.

And there is NOTHING you can do about it. Just consider yourself lucky that you did not have a kindle, because once banned Amazon wipes those clean too (bought content is not yours to keep after a ban).

I do have digital content and they told me I can access it after this ban, but its not working still.

I think you guys are missing the point that my account was in good standing and not with lots of returns. The return rate on my wifes account is debatable, but I think punishing my account for that is uncalled for. Kind strange side of SD here. Hmmm

At least the op is being a good sport.

These threads normally turn into a whine fest.

I think you are missing the point that Amazon bans ANYONE associated with the banned account. If your child had an Amazon account s/he would have been banned too.

It is how Amazon operates.
