Amazon closed my account

1,923 199 December 4, 2013 at 05:19 AM
So my wife account on Amazon got closed due "continued to request refunds for a significant number of your orders." Basically we had a baby and she was buying and returning stuff, but still keeping a lot of stuff. But I guess they have there reasons, anyway my account which had the same amazon visa card (sharing rewards) also got closed due to being linked to this account. I had student prime and over all loved my account and had good standings. What can I do now ? From reading around I see that they are using the billing address and/or Credit card/Bank information to link accounts, not the delivery address. This really sucks !

I'm not taking sides, but I think Amazon (and other retailers that track returns) should be a bit more upfront about this. If they stated that excessive returns could lead to account closure, I think people will think twice before requesting a return, or of course before making that purchase. It's a very fine line so I doubt they'll publicly state that policy to avoid scaring customers away.

I got that gentle reminder email from Amazon a few years back, after I returned a pair of ill-fitting shoes (that I paid for return shipping on) for my wife and an HP micro server unopened. Since then I have not made but 4-5 returns out of perhaps 60 orders a year. Some small items such as a case which was clearly advertised for the new iPad Mini but did not fit, I just ate that $10.

I read an article recently about Bezos & co. Amazon operates very frugally as a company - they use recycled doors as desks OMG And employees are expected to return all company provided gears including used laptop bags when they leave the company. So Mr. Bezos probably doesn't have much tolerance for people causing his company $$$.

Dude, something is very very wrong if it takes 20 different baby bottles to find one that "fits".... are you sure you have a baby and not a litter of kittens?

Meanwhile, most retailers are tracking returns:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/mon...s/2642607/
That was an example not actual fact! But hey if you ordered 20 bottles of that same brand and they dont work and now you need to return them ?

Yes I eat the cost of personal items I am not able to use or don't like.

And seriously, it's not that hard to know the size your baby will need.

You abused the system, sent back used items on a continual basis and got busted.

Waa, Waa, Waa.

Ok well the last line was uncalled for and for your used item assumption its just that. Items she sent back were eather new unopened and if they were opened they were defective. Ok intresting about you eating the cost why are you on this forum ?

How do bottles not work?

And I take personal responsibility for choices I make including purchases. If I buy a shampoo and it doesn't "fit" I don't send it back to amazon because it's defective.

Agree they should let you know, but instead you get emails(which Im still getting today) stating hassle free returns on cloth and baby items.... They use this as a selling point they close your account because of that ! Thanks for feedback.

Is thay a real question ? How do bottles dont work? We had to change 3 brands before our baby was able to use them. 2 from our dr recomendations and 1 based on our own research. The question is how does shampoo not fit ? For something like that which you opened and used part of I understand you cant send back. But for unopened things unused or defrective isnt that 100% different ? Not like we bought bottle broke it then sent it back.

That is still way too high for Amazon.

A lot of SDers (including myself) eat the cost rather than returning to Amazon. It is what a true SDer does to protect future great deals.

Again, if you do not know what is going to work, don't buy from Amazon. Go to a B&M store.

Have some mercy, man. Amazon and all other merchants do lose due to your behavior: shipping fee, human time/cost associated with restocking.
This is cruel to say, but man, you don't want your newborn to start his life like this.

Anyway, you are arguing an Amazon KNOWN fact. Thye have done this for 8+ years. We have all known it. Fair or not doesn't matter, and you can argue it until you are blue in the face. Nothing is going to change, you will not be able to start a new account, you will not get your old one back. Find a new store to shop at and move on. Your point of view has no bearing with Amazon.

One thing I do have a big problem with this Amazon hidden policy is that when one's account is closed by Amazon, that account holder loses everything he/she has in the account, including all gift card balances, digital purchases, even on a newly subscribed Prime membership. Are they even legally allowed to do that?

Yeah you're probably right.

BTW Costco does this also. Not so far as to close people's account. Once a member gets flagged, each time that member tries to make a purchase, the register will request for manager's approval for the purchase. I heard about this form someone I know. The returns abuse at Costco is unbelievable - old dirty BBQ grills, old TVs, washing machines, etc etc.

You do realize that Amazon can't resell used items right? So the bottles you used and sent back are a complete loss for Amazon.

As far as why I am here on slick deals, well, most of the items I purchase on amazon I can resell for the same price I paid on Facebook selling groups because I am getting that good a deal. So if I don't like it, I'm not out any money.

I'll go as far as to say they should have warned you first, but they absolutely did the right thing by banning your wife.
