Seriously, most of the times mods don't do things just to hear people complain. I'm sure some of you were just fine with the OT, but obviously there were a number of complaints from people that were not.

moderators review and discuss it. even mods don't all agree with each other but we found a solution to find a happy medium for those users who mind the off topic and those who did not.

I understand, I'm just not sure what is meant by off-topic or not and I probably missed the recent trouble the thread had, I don't know. I just don't feel like checking two threads for discussion about AWD, that slows things down worse than any off-topic comments in one thread. Like right now I am spending time in this thread and not in the deal thread which is where I should be! But I don't know what is acceptable or not in there now and I'm reluctant to comment. I guess I will just look at the deal thread and not comment much at all.

It shouldn't be terribly complicated, if it's related to a product in a warehouse deal, it's fine, if it's football scores or something tangential, it should go here

okay, i can clarify that for you.

okay in hot deals thread

- looking for a certain product
- help with a product bought from awd
- reviewing something bought from awd
- awd packaging or customer service chats
- "in for 1!"
- "thanks!"

not okay in the hot deals thread

- nationalities of awd chat reps (this usually leads to a discussion about outsourcing, economy and politics) - that's how this started.
- the weather in your city
- what you're having for dinner
- superbowl play by play
- latest movies you've seen or recommend
- etc, etc, not deals related

Well said. Sadly, I think what the mods may have created is a thread with just 2 posters : kschlege and Kiev... which is great for the mobile buyers/clickers/lurkers, and won't keep people from not buying everything on every list because of pesky comments about an item already having been purchased by someone else and returned as junk, etc. Better that 10 people buy it and return it, as each purchase makes some $$ for SD.

Oh so that is how this started! Thank you for letting me know and for clarifying that for me. So it snowballed into no off-topic at all because of the nationality comments? I wish they could have just deleted those comments and left the thread as it was.

I think we are still allowed to say if a certain product was bad, that helps an awful lot. I've learned so much about not only AWD but amazon itself in that thread. Hands down the best thread I ever read on SD.

we normally delete it and move on (which is why you cannot see those particular posts) but it got out of hand with continued/multiple mod alerts, so it was moved to deal talk (expired) since there weren't any deals being posted for several days.

after some of the mods discussed, the awd thread is better served in hot deals. live awd deals go super fast and we want the community to catch it as they are posted. so how do we limit the off topic? by having this thread for users who made friends with each other and want to talk about other things. in my personal opinion, we were fair to both sides of users in the awd thread.

if you scroll thru lounge forum titles, you'll see we have other "chit chat" type threads and it has worked well. it keeps deals on topic and friends happy.
