Need help with my next TV series on Netflix/Amazon Prime

41 17 February 14, 2014 at 07:32 PM in Chat (2)
In the last year I've watched all episodes of:
Lost
Heroes
Firefly
Breaking Bad
Dexter
Jericho

and enjoyed all of them immensely. Can't seem to find anything else yet on Netflix or Amazon that would be as good as those shows are. Anyone care to throw out some recommendations based on my top tier shows above? Tried 4400 and another one that I had to quit on lately. Thanks!

Several Loungers agree on:

Six Feet Under
Dexter
Breaking Bad

Unfortunately two of these options are in the OP. Confused

Firefly has a movie too, called Serenity. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt03797...fn_al_tt_1

The Americans is really good, so is House of Cards and Six Feet Under.

Got bored with Homeland and stopped watching it. The Sopranos is ok but just wasn't my thing, I too stopped watching after the first season, DH liked it though.
yeah, i watched the movie figuring i'd never see the series, and the only thing i can remember about it is it didn't make an impression one me. but that's kind of expected: futuristic sci-fi and western are two of my least favorite genres for television/movies.

i'm leaning toward The Americans simply because it has so few episodes, but feel The Sopranos and Mad Men are most culturally important and Six Feet Under might age badly if i wait much longer to watch it. first world problems and all that.

Without having watched the series, the movie wouldn't make much sense.

I watched a few episodes. Not my favorite. I've seen worse. See how I gave conflicting reviews?
Maybe I'll give it a go. My current queue marked with shows I can't live without:

*Psych (will really miss this show Frown)
*Suits
Trial and Retribution (UK)
American Horror Story
The Paradise
*Justified
True Blood
*Teen Wolf
The Good Wife
Covert Affairs
White Collar
Brain Games
The Walking Dead - not to be confused with...
Waking the Dead (UK)
Revenge
*Major Crimes (The Closer spinoff)
Pretty Little Liars
Warehouse 13

I watched the pilot for Orphan Black...once the wifey catches up, we'll be adding that series to the rotation...I thought it was really good...

Have you ever seen the ads for it on BBCA? The one where the cross bar in the 'H' is like a black DNA strand? (On a black background.)

For months I thought the show was ORPI IAN BLACK since I watch Top Gear in bed with no glasses on.

i'm "three" episodes into Firefly (Serenity parts 1 and 2, The Train Job), and i have to say i'm not terribly impressed so far. it's definitely not bad; it just has a definite "SyFy" feel to it, and they try too hard to be clever with some of the quips. the mixture of sci fi and western elements seems pretty forced as well, though not as bad as Wild Wild West.

then again, the first few episodes of almost every show suck in retrospect, so i'm hopeful things will get better (including River; can't stand her right now). if the acting for Jayne gets better, River starts speaking in full sentences, and they abandon the fly-away shots with a strumming guitar, i'd be a lot closer to getting on board.

it's also the name of a two-part episode in the series. aired later in the run, but everything i find online says it was the first episode in the DVD order and was supposed to be the pilot.

depending on how things go, i might rewatch the movie after i finish the series.

Hrmm. I thought Serenity was a brand of adult diapers.
