you dont get the right to feel insulted, u have been warned...

so, peeps, if you dont believe in god, do you feel that ones that do are delusional?

a lot of people will sight karma or other things as 'he got what he had coming' but i argue that it's all a mathematical randomness that on a small scale might seem like karma

perfect example is: when you play poker and u push with the best hand, a LOT of times, you can predict/be so sure that the card will come that will beat you even if the chance of it coming is less than 1:6. when the card comes, some might argue it as karma, but i argue that its all random, just on a small scale randomness doesn't work

discuss....

I don't think religious people are delusional, but I do think there is a bit of delusion involved in religion.

i don't believe in karma. if people fark you over, you deliver your vengeance. non-assertive = weakness. if you want anything, make it happen instead of waiting for it. Big Grin

I often wonder about this.
But many religions are made up because people fear the unexplainable, and want to make it so they can explain it so they are not so scared. I mean, who wants to actually think that when we die, that's it? That there is nothing beyond that? Kind of depressing, and scary.

hi mel, unfortunately that's just not trueSmilie

just because some religion has an explanation doesn't mean it's true Smilie. hell/heaven thing is just to scare people or give them hope but obviously that's just not true

most religions over the years in difference civilizations were made to serve special purpose. confucianism in china was very much approved for thousands of years by the kids because it had 2 main principles:
1 women were 2nd class and served men
1st son had all the powr

same was true around europe when church killed many sciencetists when they ddint denounce their discoveries cause the more they find out the more chuich figurerd people will realise that church is just made up of lazy people who don't want to do real work (in those days meant work fields etc) and rather comands people through fear to work for them by giving them food/money etc

But at the same time noone can actually prove that Jesus ever existed. During a time of turmoil was when the Christian religion was brought forth, nearly 1000 years after his death. By then, noone could actually prove that he even existed. But it turned everyone that was rich and powerful more rich and powerful because everyone followed them and believed in what they taught. And it turned the poor people(pagans) into outcasts, 'heathens' for lack of a better word. It is all built around money and power. Heaven was made to ease the fear of death. As, I'm sure, my perspective of reincarnation is as well.
But as to the Karma, you're right...for every three things that go good, sometime or another something bad has to happen. It's life. Probability says that even if you roll 3 sevens in a row, you're bound to roll a snakeyes sometime.

that's right Big Grin

p.s my reasons that new religion propped up cause ppl were sick of paganistic ceasars if rome and this was sorta a 'f u' to them that gained momentum for that reasonSmilie

in reality, paganism probably had more freedoms for a woman than christianity until mid 1920's in the usa!

(obviously there were bad things about pagan religion i am not saying it's the best etc, but just comparing'

I do think that a good chunk of religious people are delusional. But, not all. I always think it's funny when someone says they have a relationship with God and have spoken to him. One of my favorite quotes is "You speaking to God = religion..........God speaking to you = psychosis".

I don't know if 'delusional' is the right word. I'm not the type of person to have blind faith in something just because someone tells me too. I'm agnostic as far as their being a higher power and atheist when it comes to organized religions (if that make sense). As a 'non-believer' I don't have a problem with those of faith until it starts to affect me. For instance, when people (especially politicians) try to push an evangelical agenda to outlaw things like legal abortion, stem cell research, same sex marriage, etc.
